Find a San Antonio Inmate by Name and Verify the Booking

For a San Antonio jail inmate search by name, start with Bexar County—not a generic people-search database. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office operates the local adult detention system, while the county’s Justice Portal, Central Magistrate Search and Jail Activity Reports cover different stages of an arrest or booking.

Important: A booking or arrest record does not prove guilt or conviction. Charges, bond, custody location and court status can change after the record is first posted.

How to Search San Antonio Jail Inmates by Name

San Antonio is in Bexar County, so a person arrested by San Antonio Police or another local agency may ultimately appear in Bexar County’s jail systems. The arresting agency and the agency holding the person are not necessarily the same.

  1. Open the Bexar County Justice Portal page. Use the official county page at bexar.org, then select the link marked Justice Info Portal.
  2. Choose Jail Search. Public jail data does not require registration. The county specifically warns ordinary public users not to register for elevated-access accounts.
  3. Enter the person’s legal name. Use the most complete first and last name you know. If a common name produces several records, compare date of birth and other identifiers rather than assuming the first result is correct.
  4. Open the matching jail record. Look for the booking or jailing entry associated with the correct person.
  5. Save the booking and SID/SO identifiers. These numbers can be useful for bond questions, mail, inmate services and later court searches.
  6. Verify anything time-sensitive. If release, bond or immediate custody matters, call the Sheriff’s Inmate/Bond Information Line at 210-335-6201 with the person’s full name and date of birth.
Fastest practical approach: use the Justice Portal for the broader jail record, Central Magistrate for a brand-new arrest, and the phone line when the online status is incomplete or needs immediate confirmation.

If the Arrest Happened Today or Within the Last 24 Hours

The Bexar County Central Magistrate Search is especially useful immediately after an arrest. The county states that it covers people processed by the Central Magistrate Office for Class B or higher offenses during the previous 24 hours. The office also processes certain Class C matters filed through Justice of the Peace courts.

The page is essentially a live recent-arrest roster rather than a conventional search box. It can display the person’s name, SID, booking number and charge information.

Search the recent-arrest list by name

  1. Open the official Central Magistrate page.
  2. On Windows press Ctrl+F; on Mac use Command+F. On a phone, use the browser’s Find in page command.
  3. Enter the person’s last name first.
  4. Compare the full name and identifying data before assuming you found the correct person.
  5. Record the SID and booking number if shown.
  6. Open or review the charge information, then use the Justice Portal or phone line for later custody updates.

If someone was arrested very recently and is absent from both systems, the booking or magistration process may still be underway. Central Magistrate operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and its public information number is 210-335-6111.

Need bookings from the last several days?

The Sheriff’s Jail Activity Reports are another official source. BCSO states that these reports remain online for a maximum of seven days and warns that data can lag depending on where a defendant is in the booking process.

What a San Antonio Booking Result Can Tell You

FieldWhy it matters
NameConfirms the listed identity, but a name alone should not be treated as proof that it is the person you intended to find.
Booking numberIdentifies a particular booking event and helps narrow later inquiries.
SID / SO numberA system identifier used across Bexar County jail-related processes. The SID is especially important for inmate mail.
Booking or intake informationHelps establish when the person entered the local process.
ChargeShows the accusation recorded at that stage; it is not a conviction and can later be amended or dismissed.
BondMay show whether a bond has been set and the amount. Confirm the current figure before arranging payment.
Release/dispositionCan help determine whether the person remains in local custody, but live status should be rechecked when timing matters.
Case informationUse the court system—not the jail roster—to determine hearings, filings and the eventual case outcome.
Identity check: For a common name, compare date of birth, SID or booking number and case information. Do not make employment, housing, credit, insurance or similar eligibility decisions from a jail search.

Only a San Antonio city citation or municipal matter is involvedCity-court records may be separate from Bexar County jail custody. Central Magistrate directs city-violation questions to San Antonio municipal channels.

A blank search does not prove that no arrest or record exists. Booking delays, release, transfers, restricted records, incorrect spelling and jurisdiction differences can all produce a no-result search.

How to Check Bond and Release Information

For current charges, bond amounts and warrant information, BCSO publishes a dedicated Inmate/Bond Information Line at 210-335-6201. The Sheriff’s Office says callers need the person’s full name and date of birth.

  1. Identify the correct person through Jail Search or Central Magistrate.
  2. Write down the SID and booking number if available.
  3. Check the displayed bond information.
  4. Call 210-335-6201 before sending money if the bond status must be current.
  5. If using a commercial surety company, verify its current license through the Bexar County Bail Bond Board rather than relying on an advertisement.
  6. After release, check the court case for the next required hearing or condition.

Cash bond rules published by BCSO

BCSO states that a cash bond is the full bond amount and is accepted by cashier’s check or money order only, payable to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. A valid ID is required. The Sheriff’s Office says it does not accept actual cash, traveler’s checks or personal checks for this process.

Scam warning: BCSO repeatedly states that it does not take payment by phone to avoid arrest and will not ask for gift cards or cryptocurrency. If a caller makes that demand, do not pay based only on the call.

Find the Court Date, Criminal Case and Final Outcome

A jail record answers a custody question. A court record answers what is happening in the criminal case. Once you identify the defendant, use Bexar County’s Justice Portal for hearings and case information.

  1. Open the official Bexar County Justice Portal page.
  2. Open the Justice Info Portal.
  3. Choose Smart Search when searching for the case by name or case number.
  4. Enter names in Last, First Middle format when possible.
  5. Use Search Hearings when your main question is the next court date.
  6. Open the matching case and compare it with the booking details you already recorded.

The county says registration is not required to view public data. Some case categories are secured and therefore unavailable to ordinary public portal users.

For misdemeanor record questions, Bexar County lists Central Filing at 210-335-2238. For felony records, the District Clerk number published by the county is 210-335-2591.

San Antonio Jail Video Visitation

Bexar County uses ICSolutions for inmate video-visit registration and scheduling. The current BCSO visitation page says users must create an ICSolutions account before scheduling.

  1. Open the current BCSO visitation page.
  2. Use its ICSolutions registration link to create an account.
  3. Log in and select the correct detainee.
  4. Choose an available visit date and time.
  5. Review the current rules before the appointment.
  6. For registration or technical help, call ICSolutions at 888-646-9437.

SundayClosed except Easter Sunday, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, when hours are listed as 8:00 AM–3:00 PM.
Thanksgiving & ChristmasClosed.

The county’s live page also says its desktop platform is not compatible with Mac or Chromebook computers and directs those users toward supported options, including the ICS mobile app.

Check before traveling: BCSO’s live visitation webpage and an older linked visitation-rules PDF contain different Tuesday–Friday time details. For a current appointment, use the live scheduling system or call 210-335-8270 rather than relying on an older printed schedule.

Important rules from BCSO’s visitation PDF

  • Visits must be scheduled at least 72 hours in advance and may be scheduled up to two weeks ahead.
  • The PDF lists visits as lasting 20 minutes.
  • Visitors should arrive about 30 minutes early for on-site check-in.
  • Visitors age 17 or older must be registered and have valid government-issued photo identification.
  • The scheduling visitor must be present.
  • The PDF limits each session to two adults and one minor, or one adult and two minors.
  • Active protective orders can prevent a visit.
  • Visits are subject to monitoring and recording.

Mail, Money and Other Inmate Services

How to address inmate mail

BCSO requires the inmate’s name and SID number. Include the unit location when known:

[Inmate’s full name and SID number][Unit location, if known]
Bexar County Adult Detention Center
200 N. Comal Street
San Antonio, TX 78207

The Sheriff’s Office says incoming mail is opened, inspected and scanned into a kiosk. The digital image can remain available to the inmate for up to six months, while the physical mail is held for two business days after scanning and then destroyed.

  • Do not send cash, money orders, cashier’s checks, credit cards or IDs through inmate mail.
  • No more than six photos per envelope; photos larger than 5 × 7 inches are prohibited.
  • Books must be approved paperback publications sent directly from a publisher or established bookstore.
  • The SID must appear on a book shipment label.
  • BCSO says an inmate may keep a maximum of three paperback books in the cell.

Check current BCSO inmate mail rules.

Sending money

BCSO currently uses Access Corrections Secure Deposits for inmate trust-fund deposits. The Sheriff’s official instructions list these methods:

  • Online through Access Corrections.
  • By phone at 866-345-1884.
  • At participating retail locations using Cash Pay Today; location assistance is available at 844-340-2274.
  • Through the Access Corrections mobile app.

Approved care packages are handled through Access SecurePak, with telephone ordering listed at 800-546-6283.

Mugshots, Older Jail Records and Sheriff Reports

A current jail search is not the same thing as an official incident report, historical record or certified court file. If the live roster no longer answers your question, Bexar County provides separate records channels.

Mugshot request

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Central Records page says mugshot requests can be made using the person’s full name, SID number or date of birth. Use the current contact method published on the BCSO Central Records page.

Offense or incident report

For an offense or incident report, BCSO asks for the case number when known, or enough identifying information such as the date, location and complainant’s name to locate the record.

Older criminal court record

Use the Bexar County Justice System Searches & Records page for County Clerk misdemeanor records, District Clerk criminal records, court dockets, recent arrests and related justice-system searches.

Other Texas Jail Search Guides

If the arrest happened outside Bexar County, search the county that actually booked the person rather than assuming every Texas record will appear in San Antonio.

San Antonio Jail Inmate Search FAQs

1. How do I search for a San Antonio jail inmate by name?

Use Bexar County’s official Justice Portal and select Jail Search. Search using the person’s legal name, compare identifying information, then open the matching jail record. For immediate confirmation, call 210-335-6201 with the person’s full name and date of birth.

2. Is San Antonio jail the same as Bexar County Jail?

For most adult county-jail searches in San Antonio, the relevant local detention system is the Bexar County Adult Detention Center operated by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. An arresting agency such as San Antonio Police and the agency holding the person can be different.

3. How can I find someone arrested in San Antonio today?

Check the Bexar County Central Magistrate Search first. It covers qualifying arrests processed by the Central Magistrate Office within the previous 24 hours. Use your browser’s Find in Page feature to locate the person’s last name in the roster.

4. Why is a recently arrested person not showing online?

Booking or magistration may still be underway, the name may be entered differently, the person may have been released quickly, or another jurisdiction may hold the person. Recheck Central Magistrate and Jail Search, then call 210-335-6201 if necessary.

5. How do I find a San Antonio inmate’s bond amount?

Check the jail or magistrate record and then confirm current information through BCSO’s Inmate/Bond Information Line at 210-335-6201. The Sheriff’s Office says the caller should have the person’s full name and date of birth.

6. How long do Bexar County Jail Activity Reports stay online?

BCSO says Jail Activity Reports remain online for a maximum of seven days. They are useful for recent booking research, but data may lag while a defendant is still moving through booking.

7. How do I find a San Antonio inmate’s court date?

Use the Bexar County Justice Portal. Search the criminal case through Smart Search, then use Search Hearings when you need an upcoming court date. Jail custody and court-case status are separate records.

8. What information do I need to mail a Bexar County inmate?

You need the inmate’s name and SID number. Include the unit if known and address the mail to Bexar County Adult Detention Center, 200 N. Comal Street, San Antonio, TX 78207.

9. Where do I search if the person was transferred to Texas state prison?

Use the Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmate search rather than continuing to rely on the Bexar County jail roster. State-prison custody is maintained separately from county jail custody.

10. Does a San Antonio booking record mean the person was convicted?

No. A booking shows an arrest or custody event. It does not establish guilt. Charges can be amended or dismissed, and the final case disposition comes from the court record rather than the jail roster.

Use the Official Record for the Final Live Status

For the quickest San Antonio name search, use this order: Justice Portal Jail Search → Central Magistrate for a very recent arrest → BCSO Jail Activity Reports → 210-335-6201 for direct confirmation → Justice Portal court search for the case outcome. That sequence covers most questions without forcing you to jump between unrelated third-party databases.

Independent information notice: CountyJailInmateSearch.org is not the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, Bexar County Adult Detention Center, San Antonio Police Department or a government agency. Custody, bond, visitation and release information can change quickly; the responsible agency’s live record controls.
