Find a Riverside County Jail Inmate and Check Current Custody
If someone was arrested in Riverside County, start with the Riverside County Sheriff Inmate Information System (JIMS). It is the county’s official public jail lookup and lets you search with a booking number or the inmate’s name.
For a name search, the last name is required. You can add the first name, date of birth and sex to narrow the results. Once you find the correct person, save the booking number and current facility before arranging a visit, sending money or mailing anything.

If the Inmate Search Shows No Result
A blank result does not automatically mean the person was never arrested. Check these possibilities before stopping your search:
- Check spelling. Use the person’s legal surname rather than a nickname.
- Remove extra filters. An incorrect birth date or first-name spelling can prevent a match.
- Allow for intake processing. A very recent arrest may not yet have completed booking.
- Confirm the arrest county. An arrest near the Riverside County line may be booked in another county.
- Check for release. The person may already have left county custody.
- Check for transfer. A sentenced inmate transferred to California state prison should be searched through CDCR.
- Check federal custody. Federal inmates use the Bureau of Prisons locator.
- Do not use the adult roster for juveniles. Juvenile custody follows separate access rules.

Inmate Property, Medication and Court Clothing
Property that can normally be picked up is limited to eligible personal property other than clothing and money. The inmate must sign a property-withdrawal slip authorizing the release, and the person collecting the property must show identification.
For court clothing, prescription medication, checks, legal documents or other special property needs, contact the current facility first because procedures and service hours vary.
