Find a Placer County Inmate and Check Current Jail Custody
If you are trying to find someone arrested in Placer County, California, start with the Placer County Sheriff’s official In-Custody Report. The county links this report from its public View page and describes it as the jail in-custody roster containing bail and other booking-related information.
Placer County operates Auburn Jail in Auburn and South Placer Jail in Roseville. South Placer Minimum Security visitation is handled separately. Confirm the inmate’s current facility before visiting, posting bail, sending legal mail or arranging inmate services.
Start with the Sheriff’s In-Custody Report.
Check the Daily Booking & Release Report.
Review the 10-Day Arrest Log.
Use the Placer County Superior Court portal.
How to Search the Placer County Jail Roster
- Open the official Placer County View page.
- Select In-Custody Report (PDF).
- Open the current Sheriff’s report.
- On Windows use Ctrl + F; on Mac use Command + F. On a phone, use the PDF viewer’s Find or Search option.
- Search the person’s legal last name and review possible matches.
- Compare the available booking and custody information carefully instead of relying on a similar name alone.
- Confirm the facility before visiting, mailing legal documents, posting bail or sending funds.
If the hosted PDF does not open, return to the county View page and try again or call the appropriate jail. Do not assume that an unavailable PDF means the person is not in custody.

If You Cannot Find the Inmate
A missing name does not always mean the arrest did not happen. Work through these possibilities:
- Booking is still being processed: a very recent arrest may take time to appear in public reports.
- The person was released: check the Daily Booking & Release Report.
- The spelling is different: retry the legal surname, hyphenated name, suffix or another known legal-name variation.
- The person was transferred: custody may have moved to another agency or jurisdiction.
- The person entered state custody: use California’s CDCR inmate locator.
- You need the court case rather than the jail record: search Placer Superior Court.
- The arrest occurred outside Placer County: search the county that actually handled the booking.
If you know the person should be in Placer County custody but cannot confirm the record online, call Auburn Jail at 530-745-8500 or South Placer Jail at 916-409-8100.
Recent Arrests vs. Current Inmates
The 10-Day Arrest Log and In-Custody Report serve different purposes. Someone can appear in an arrest log but no longer be in jail because the person was released, posted bail, received another release order or transferred.
For that reason, use the arrest log to confirm recent Sheriff arrest activity and the In-Custody Report when the real question is, “Is this person in Placer County jail right now?”
Check Charges, Court Dates and Case Status
The jail roster is not a complete court record. After identifying the correct inmate, use the Placer County Superior Court Online Portal when you need publicly searchable criminal case information.
- Open the court’s Online Portal.
- Choose the public case-search option.
- No account is required simply to search public case information.
- Enter a filing date or date range.
- Enter either the case number or party name.
- Open the matching criminal case and compare it with the inmate information you already have.
The court notes that its newest filings may not always be available immediately. If a search returns no result, recheck the original filing date, case-number format and party-name spelling.
Posting Bail at Auburn or South Placer Jail
Placer County lists bail processing at both Auburn Jail and South Placer Jail as available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If a bail bond will be submitted after 7:00 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office instructs people to call the jail before arriving.
| Payment method | County instruction |
|---|---|
| Cash | Exact amount. |
| Cashier’s check, certified check or money order | Made payable according to the court/jurisdiction instructions listed by Placer County. |
| Bail bond | Must be delivered by a licensed bail agent. |
A bail agent may request the bail amount, charges, court case number, court date/department and jail identification number.
Verify current Placer County bail instructions before arranging payment.
Visiting an Inmate
Auburn Jail
Auburn Jail provides in-person visitation. The inmate’s visitation day and time can be checked using the current In-Custody Report. Visitors should check in at the Auburn Visitation Center approximately 35 to 45 minutes before the scheduled session.

South Placer Jail uses scheduled video visitation for applicable housing areas. Both on-site and remote visits generally require registration and scheduling at least 24 hours in advance.
- On-site video visitation is currently free.
- Remote video visitation is currently listed at $9.99 for 30 minutes.
- South Placer visitors should check in about 30 minutes before their scheduled on-site session.

- Visitor groups are generally limited to two adults and one minor or one adult and two minors.
Review the current jail visitation instructions and visitor dress code before leaving home.

Inmate Phone Calls
Placer County inmates cannot receive ordinary incoming calls. Inmates can make outgoing calls, and family or friends can use ICSolutions for prepaid/inmate-debit accounts and voicemail services.
- ICSolutions: 888-506-8407
- Jail staff do not take routine personal messages for inmates.
- Emergency messages may be accepted at the discretion of the jail sergeant.
Property Release After Booking
Within the first 72 hours after booking, except during lockdown periods, an inmate can authorize one of these releases:
- motor-vehicle keys only;
- all property except clothing; or
- money.
After the initial 72 hours, the Sheriff’s rules generally allow one complete property release excluding clothing and money. Current property-release times for Auburn Jail and South Placer Jail are Friday through Monday, 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The person collecting property goes to the facility where the inmate is housed and requests a property-release form. Jail staff then obtain the inmate’s approval before releasing eligible property.
Get Release or Transfer Notifications
Placer County participates in VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday), a free custody-information and notification service. Registered users can receive notifications for changes such as release, transfer, escape, work release or other listed custody changes.
- Custody information: 877-331-8463
- VINE registration/help: 877-411-5588
Open Placer County VINE information.
Use VINE when you want an alert about a custody change. Use the Sheriff’s In-Custody Report when you simply need to check current Placer County jail custody.
If the Person Was Sent to California State Prison
A person transferred from Placer County jail into California state correctional custody may disappear from the county’s active roster. Use the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation CIRIS search in that situation.
County jail and state prison searches are not interchangeable. Start with Placer County for a recent local arrest; use CDCR after the person has entered state correctional custody.
Older Arrest, Booking or Sheriff Records

- Address: 2929 Richardson Drive, Auburn, CA 95603
- Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding county holidays.
