Find a Pima County Jail Inmate and Check Current Custody

If you are trying to find someone arrested in Tucson or elsewhere in Pima County, start with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Inmate Lookup. The public roster is for people currently in the custody of the Pima County Adult Detention Center and is searched by the inmate’s last name.

Fastest route

Open the Sheriff’s official lookup, enter the person’s last name, run the search, and confirm that the returned booking belongs to the correct person before using bond, visitation, mail, phone or deposit services.

Important: The Sheriff’s roster is a current-custody search, not a complete history of everyone ever booked in Pima County. A person may disappear after release or transfer. A booking or listed charge also does not establish guilt or a conviction.

Information reviewed October 16, 2026. Live custody, bond, housing and court information can change after publication.

How to Search the Pima County Jail Roster

  1. Open the official Sheriff inmate page. Go directly to sheriff.pima.gov/inmate. You do not need to begin with a paid people-search or mugshot website.
  2. Enter the inmate’s last name. The official public form is built around a last-name search rather than a statewide-style form with many filters.
  3. Select the lookup button. Matching current-custody records appear below the search form.
  4. Verify the correct person. Do not rely on a name alone when several people have similar names. Compare the available booking, custody, charge, bail or location information and keep any name number, booking number or housing information that appears.
  5. Use the correct next service. Once the inmate is confirmed, use the booking information for visitation, phone service, mail, bond, money deposits or a jail-record request.
What the roster is designed to cover: current inmates who may be awaiting court proceedings, serving a jail sentence or being held for another jurisdiction. Pima County’s public information resources describe the current-inmate system as providing available location, bail and charge information. The Sheriff states that the roster is updated regularly but does not publish a guaranteed update interval.

If the Person Does Not Appear in the Search

A zero-result search does not always mean the person was never arrested or has been released. Use the situation below to choose the next step.

Situation What to do
Arrest happened very recently Booking and identity processing may still be underway. Pima County says people cited on felony charges are booked and have release conditions set within 24 hours, with most set within about 14 hours. This does not mean the inmate will necessarily be released within that period.
Misdemeanor arrest Pima County states that misdemeanor arrests normally do not result in jail booking, although some do. Check the arresting agency or court if no jail record appears.
Arrest occurred in the Ajo area The Sheriff separately lists the Ajo District Jail. If the Adult Detention Center lookup does not resolve the question, call the Ajo facility at (520) 387-8511.
Person was released The current roster may no longer display the person. Use the Sheriff’s jail-record request process for an older booking or jail record.
Transferred to Arizona state prison Use the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry Inmate Data Search.
Federal custody Use the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator.
You need the criminal case rather than custody status Use the Arizona court systems described below. A jail roster and a court docket answer different questions.

Charges, Court Dates, Bond and Release

Check the jail record first

Use the inmate lookup to confirm the booking and available charge or bail information. Treat it as custody information, not the final court record.

Check the court case

For filed court information, start with the Arizona Judicial Branch Public Access Case Lookup. It allows name or case-number searches for participating Arizona courts.

If you need Superior Court documents, use Arizona eAccess. Arizona’s judiciary states that Pima County criminal case records in eAccess are available for cases filed on or after July 1, 2015, subject to restrictions on sealed or confidential material.

For eligible limited-jurisdiction matters, the Pima County Consolidated Justice Court Case Search supports searches by name, case number or complaint number. Its public system does not provide online felony-case information.

How bond can be paid

The Pima County Adult Detention Complex accepts bonds at the Inmate Accounts area in the main jail lobby at 1270 W. Silverlake Road.

  • Surety and currency bonds posted by bail bond agents are accepted 24 hours a day.
  • Main-jail lobby kiosks accept cash, credit and debit card bond transactions 24 hours a day.
  • Credit and debit card payments are also available through the Sheriff’s designated TouchPay service and by phone at 1-866-232-1899.
  • Cash, money orders and cashier’s checks can be accepted at the Inmate Accounts window for the exact amount required.
  • Identification validation is required for bonds.
  • Electronic-payment services may charge additional fees.
Bond payment and physical release are not the same step. The Sheriff says most bond transactions are processed within about an hour, but an inmate’s actual release may take up to five hours. The jail does not release inmates between approximately 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. because of security procedures.

Pima County Jail Visitation

Inmates become eligible for visitation after their first court appearance and assignment to a permanent housing unit. Pima County currently conducts social visitation by video.

Visit type Current Sheriff information
Free on-site visit One 30-minute visit per inmate, per week
Additional on-site visit 30 minutes for $9 per inmate, per day
Remote visit Up to 15 minutes at $0.25 per minute
Advance scheduling On-site visits should be scheduled 1 to 7 days ahead; same-day walk-ins are not accepted
Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Saturday-Sunday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Federal holidays No visitation

For an on-site visit, report to the Main Jail Front Desk at 1270 W. Silverlake Road about 15 minutes before the scheduled time and bring a current photo ID. The Sheriff allows no more than four visitors at one time, and juveniles must be accompanied by an adult.

Visits can be scheduled through the Sheriff’s designated visitation system at pimacountyaz.gtlvisitme.com. Visitor Support is available at 855-208-7349.

Before a video visit: the current PCADC visitation-rules document says personal video visits may be monitored and recorded. The adult account holder must be at least 18, minors must remain with the adult account holder, visitors must remain identifiable and properly dressed, and photos, recordings, live streaming, three-way calls and secondary-device use can result in restrictions or suspension.

Check current visitation information before scheduling or traveling.

Phone Calls and Voicemail

Pima County uses GTL/ViaPath services for inmate calling. A prepaid AdvancePay account must contain enough funds for a call to go through.

  1. Find the inmate’s name number.
  2. Add leading zeros until the name number becomes the required 9-digit PIN.
  3. Use ConnectNetwork or call (800) 483-8314 to fund the account.

To leave an inmate a voicemail, call (520) 448-3426, choose a language, enter the inmate’s name number and record the message. The Sheriff currently lists a maximum length of two minutes and a charge of $2 per message, deducted from the AdvancePay account and non-refundable.

Sending Money or Ordering Commissary

The inmate should be positively identified before money is sent. At the Inmate Account Window:

  • Personal checks are not accepted.
  • U.S. bank checks and money orders are accepted.
  • U.S. paper currency is accepted for the deposit amount, but staff does not provide change.
  • Coins are not accepted for deposits.
  • A valid government-issued photo ID is required for deposit and disbursement transactions.
  • Counter hours are currently 10 a.m.-5 p.m., seven days a week.

The Sheriff’s page also links to TouchPay for online deposits and to Pima County Packages for approved commissary ordering.

Check current inmate-account rules before sending money.

Mailing an Inmate

Pima County has specific mail rules, so first use the inmate lookup to confirm the inmate’s pod location and booking number.

  • Postcards may be no larger than 4.25 by 6 inches.
  • Incoming postcards are copied digitally or by photocopy; the inmate receives the copy rather than the original.
  • The Sheriff states that original incoming postcards are destroyed after 14 calendar days.
  • Books, magazines and newspapers must come directly from a publisher or widely accepted distributor.
  • Personal mail must be sent through U.S. Mail.
  • Packages generally require prior permission obtained at least five days before mailing; publisher/distributor publications are treated separately.
  • Letters must use pre-printed/pre-stamped postage envelopes or metered postage.
  • Letters written with gel pens are not accepted.

Address format

Pod Location

If an envelope contains an approved money order or government check for the inmate account, the Sheriff’s instructions say to include “Inmate Trust Account” in the addressing.

Review current Pima County inmate mail rules before mailing anything.

How to Request an Older Booking or Jail Record

If a person has been released and no longer appears in the current inmate search, use the Sheriff’s Obtain Jail Report process.

  • inmate’s full legal name;
  • date of birth, if known;
  • name number, if known;
  • booking number, if known;
  • housing location, if known; and
  • a narrow description and date range for the record requested.

Before You Rely on a Jail Search Result

Verify the person’s identity, the jurisdiction and whether the record describes current custody or a separate court case. Our Sources & Verification Policy explains how official custody, court and corrections sources are prioritized, while our Accuracy & Responsible Use guide explains why a jail listing should not be treated as a conviction or used without identity checks.

Pima County states that people cited on felony charges are booked and have conditions of release set within 24 hours, with most set within about 14 hours. 8. How do I visit an inmate at the Pima County Adult Detention Complex?

Social visits are conducted by video after the inmate has made a first court appearance and received a permanent housing assignment. On-site visits must be scheduled in advance, and visitors should arrive about 15 minutes early with valid photo identification.

9. How can I send money, mail or a voicemail to a Pima County inmate?

Use the inmate’s confirmed name or booking identifiers first. Money can be deposited using Sheriff-approved methods, mail must follow the Sheriff’s postal rules, and voicemail can currently be left through the GTL system at (520) 448-3426 using the inmate’s name number.

10. How do I get an old Pima County jail record after the inmate is released?

Use the Pima County Sheriff’s Obtain Jail Report process. Provide the inmate’s full name and as much identifying information as possible, such as date of birth, name number, booking number, housing location and a specific date range for the record requested.
