Find a Kern County Inmate and Check Current Jail Information
If you are trying to find someone arrested in Bakersfield or elsewhere in Kern County, start with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office inmate search. The official lookup can show the person’s current jail location, booking number, booking information, charges, bail information and available hearing details.
Information and official resources checked October 2026. Custody, housing, bail, court and visitation information can change, so verify a live record before traveling, paying money or mailing anything.
How to Search the Kern County Jail Roster
The Sheriff’s current search page asks for at least three characters. You do not need to know which Lerdo facility is holding the person before searching because the inmate record identifies the jail location when that information is available.
Go to Kern County Sheriff’s Office Inmate Search.
Use the legal spelling when possible. If a full-name search fails, retry with a shorter but distinctive part of the surname.
These can help separate people with similar names.
Compare identifying information carefully instead of assuming the first similar name is the correct person.
You may need the booking number for mail, deposits, visitation or when contacting detention staff.
A person can have more than one booking, charge set, bail amount or court case associated with the custody record.
What the Kern County Inmate Record Can Tell You
A KCSO inmate detail page can contain significantly more information than a basic name-only jail roster. Depending on the record, you may see:
If you plan to call the jail, visit, send money or check a court case, keep the full name and booking number available.
Which Kern County Jail Facility Is the Person In?
Kern County does not operate only one building commonly referred to as “the county jail.” The Sheriff’s Detentions Bureau manages the Lerdo detention system and additional receiving or court-holding locations. The Sheriff reports an average detained population of roughly 1,800 people and about 30,000 new arrests each year.
| Facility | Current role | Phone |
|---|---|---|
| Lerdo Justice Facility 17801 Industrial Farm Road, Bakersfield, CA 93308 | Houses newly arrested individuals and people pending court; the Inmate Reception Center is the primary booking/release hub. | 661-391-3100 |
| Lerdo Pre-Trial Facility | Houses incarcerated people at higher security levels. | 661-391-7900 |
| Lerdo Maximum-Medium Facility | KCSO currently lists it as under construction and not housing incarcerated persons. | 661-391-7865 |
| Minimum Facility | KCSO currently lists it as under construction and not housing incarcerated persons. | 661-391-7967 |
| Metro Court Holding 1415 Truxtun Ave., Bakersfield | Does not currently house inmates; it is used as a court-holding facility for people transported from Lerdo. | 661-868-6850 |
| Mojave Jail | Receives arrests from the Mojave area and may hold people pending release or transfer to Bakersfield. | 661-824-7141 |
| Ridgecrest Jail | KCSO currently lists the jail as under construction and not housing incarcerated persons. | 760-384-5919 |
Before visiting or sending anything, confirm the facility shown on the live inmate record. Housing assignments can change.
If the Kern County Inmate Search Shows No Result
A missing result does not automatically mean the person was never arrested. Work through these checks in order:
- Retry the name. Check spelling, hyphenated names, suffixes, middle names and aliases.
- Allow for very recent booking. A newly arrested person may still be going through intake and identification.
- Confirm the arresting jurisdiction. Make sure the arrest occurred in Kern County rather than another California county.
- Call the appropriate detention facility. KCSO specifically advises using the inmate search or contacting the custodial facility for custody questions.
- Check the court case. A person may have a criminal case even when they are no longer displayed as currently housed.
- Check state custody after a transfer. If the person entered the California prison system, use the California Incarcerated Records and Information Search (CIRIS).
- Check federal custody if applicable. Use the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator for federal inmates.
Charges, Court Dates and Bail: Use the Right Record
Jail record
Use the KCSO inmate record to check current custody, jail location, booking information, listed charges, bail information and available hearing information.
Kern County Superior Court
Use the court system when you need the criminal case rather than only the jail booking. The Kern County Superior Court Case Information Search provides public case access after you accept its terms. The court notes that its online information is provided for public convenience and is not the certified official court record.
The court’s eCourt system may require registration to view case information. Search using the court case number from the jail record when available; this usually reduces the chance of confusing two people with similar names.
Bail
Kern County Superior Court publishes a current Bail Schedules page, including its 2026 felony bail schedule. Do not assume a schedule amount is the amount currently required for a particular inmate. Holds, warrants, multiple cases, judicial orders and other case-specific circumstances can affect release.
Before paying: confirm the correct inmate, current booking, total displayed bail, individual booking bail and any restriction shown in the KCSO record. If anything is unclear, verify it with the jail or court before sending money to anyone.
Kern County Jail Visitation
KCSO states that visits at its detention facilities may be recorded and monitored. Visitors age 16 and older must present acceptable identification for scheduled on-site video visitation. Expired identification is not accepted, and visitors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or adult legal guardian.

Mail, Inmate Money, Phone Calls and Property
Personal mail is now processed digitally
KCSO changed its personal-mail process effective June 1, 2025. Ordinary physical personal mail is no longer delivered directly to Kern County detention facilities. It is sent to the Securus Digital Mail Center, scanned and made available through inmate kiosks or tablets.

Legal/private privileged mail from qualifying legal institutions is handled differently. KCSO also lists several prohibited personal-mail items, including cash, checks, money orders, stamps, stickers, tape, blank paper, greeting cards, perfume and other foreign substances. Appropriate books and periodicals must come directly from an approved publisher/seller route, with KCSO currently limiting shipments to two soft-bound books.
Always review the official correspondence rules before mailing because rejected items are not delivered.
Depositing money
- Online: KCSO directs users to Access Corrections.
- By phone: 1-866-345-1884.
- Kiosk: KCSO lists deposit kiosks at designated detention locations including the Justice Facility.
Confirm the inmate’s name and booking information before submitting a deposit.
Telephone and video services
KCSO uses Securus Technologies for inmate telephone and video-visitation services. The Sheriff lists Securus inmate telephone support at 1-800-844-6591.
Property release
Property releases are processed at the Justice Facility, 17801 Industrial Farm Road, Bakersfield, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The person receiving the property must have valid state or federal government-issued photo identification.
KCSO advises that processing can take approximately 30 minutes to 3 hours and that the recipient must remain at the facility once the release process starts. Inmate clothing is not released through this process.
