Find a JSO Inmate and Check Duval County Jail Records

If someone was arrested in Jacksonville or Duval County, start with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Inmate Information Search. This is JSO’s official lookup for current inmates as well as historical information about people who have already been released.

The same search effectively serves as the public JSO jail roster. Use it first to confirm custody, booking information, available charges and mugshot information. Then use the Duval County Clerk only when you need the related criminal court case.

If a Recent Arrest Does Not Appear

Someone who was just arrested may still be completing intake. JSO says intake includes property inventory, booking, medical screening, identification clearance and cell assignment before the person is considered for release or visitation.

  • Check the spelling of the first and last name.
  • Search again after additional intake time has passed.
  • Confirm that the arrest actually occurred in Jacksonville or Duval County.
  • Consider whether the person was already released.
  • Check whether another county, state agency or federal agency has custody.
  • Call JSO Jail/Inmate Information at 904-630-5760 if the online search still does not resolve the issue.

Always verify the inmate’s current housing location before sending legal mail, arranging transportation or visiting a facility.

Bond and Bail

For a cash bond, JSO directs the person posting bond to bring the full bond amount to the jail’s public reception area.

JSO currently lists these payment methods:

  • cash;
  • certified check;
  • cashier’s check drawn on a local bank and subject to verification; or
  • United States Postal Money Order payable to the Office of the Sheriff.

A bonding agency can post a surety bond instead of a cash bond. JSO officers cannot recommend a specific bail-bond company.

Before paying bond: confirm the inmate, all charges, current bond amounts and any holds. A bond on one charge does not necessarily mean immediate release if another case or hold prevents release.

Civil Purge Payments

If someone is incarcerated on certain civil matters, such as a Writ of Attachment, a judge may establish a purge amount. JSO says the purge can be paid during normal business hours through the Domestic Relations Department, Room 107 at the courthouse. After normal business hours, payment may be made at the jail.

How Long Does JSO Release Take?

JSO does not promise one fixed release time. Once the inmate has been cleared, staff process the release as quickly as possible, but actual timing varies.

  • Sentenced inmates at Montgomery Correctional Center are transported to the jail for release.
  • Sentenced inmates housed at the Community Transition Center are released from that facility.
  • Confirm the release location before arranging a pickup.

How to Send Mail to a JSO Inmate

Routine personal USPS mail is sent to JSO’s centralized mail-processing center:

Personal mail
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office – Duval, FL
Inmate’s Name, 10-digit Booking Number
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131

JSO scans eligible personal mail and makes it available through the inmate tablet system.

  • Include the inmate’s name and 10-digit booking number.
  • Include the sender’s name and return address.
  • Do not send boxes.
  • Envelopes cannot be larger than 8½ × 11 inches.
  • Altered envelopes may be rejected.

Legal mail is different. Legal mail and authorized magazine, newspaper and periodical subscriptions, plus approved paperback books, must be sent to the facility where the inmate is housed.

JSO states that paperback books must come directly from Amazon, Books-A-Million or Barnes & Noble. Hardback books are prohibited.

How to Add Commissary Money

JSO directs inmate commissary deposits through Access Secure Deposits.

  1. Confirm the inmate is still in JSO custody.
  2. Open inmatedeposits.com.
  3. Create an account and identify the correct inmate.
  4. Complete the deposit and save your confirmation.

Telephone deposits are available at 1-866-345-1884. JSO also lists cash-deposit kiosks at the jail, Montgomery Correctional Center and Community Transition Center.

Inmate Phone Account

JSO currently directs people funding an inmate telephone account to OffenderConnect or 1-877-650-4249.

Property Pickup and Jail Lobby Access

JSO limits entry to the main jail public lobby to specific business. This includes attorney visits, court-ordered business, posting inmate bonds and picking up an inmate’s money or keys.

If access to the jail is needed, call 904-630-5760 and select option 1.

The jail also lists notary service during these hours:

  • Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Friday: 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

Check the Duval County Criminal Court Case

The inmate record and court case serve different purposes. After identifying the correct inmate, use Duval County Clerk CORE to review available criminal case information.

  1. Open CORE.
  2. Use public access or sign in to a registered account.
  3. Search by the defendant’s name or known case information.
  4. Match the correct case carefully.
  5. Review available docket entries and documents.
  6. If a document is restricted or not published online, contact the appropriate Clerk department.

Basic public access allows viewing of eligible non-confidential court records. A free registered CORE account can provide additional document-request functions where permitted.

Need an Arrest Report or Police Record?

The JSO inmate search is not a replacement for a police or arrest report. For releasable agency records, use the JSO Public Records Unit.
