Find a Henderson County Jail Inmate and Verify Current Custody
If you are trying to find someone arrested in Athens or elsewhere in Henderson County, start with the county’s official Odyssey Public Access records system. Henderson County links its Records service to this portal, where jail-related records and jail bond records can be checked.
Fastest route: open the official county records portal, choose the jail-record option, locate the correct person, and save any booking or identifying information shown. If the portal does not load, asks for browser verification, or a very recent inmate is not yet visible, call the Henderson County Jail directly at 903-677-6322.

How to Run a Henderson County TX Jail Inmate Search
- Open the county’s official Records portal. Henderson County’s government website sends public-record searches to its Tyler Technologies Odyssey Public Access system.
- Choose the jail-record section. Use Jail Records for custody and booking-related information. If your question is specifically about bond information, also check Jail Bond Records.
- Search with the most accurate information you have. Use the person’s legal name and any booking or identifying number available in the live form. Avoid relying on a nickname if the first search returns nothing.
- Compare the result carefully. People can share the same first and last name. Check available identifiers, booking information, dates and charges before assuming you found the correct person.
- Save the useful identifiers. Note any booking number, SO number, case number or other identifier shown. These can help when calling the jail, checking bond, reviewing court records or sending mail.
- Confirm time-sensitive information before acting. Call 903-677-6322 before traveling, posting bond, sending important mail or relying on an expected release.
If a Recently Arrested Person Does Not Appear
A zero-result search does not necessarily mean the person was never arrested. Work through these possibilities before searching random inmate websites:
- Booking may still be processing. A recent arrest can take time to move through identification, paperwork and jail intake.
- The name may be different in the record. Recheck spelling, middle names, suffixes, hyphenated surnames and legal-name variations.
- The person may already have been released. Bond, a court order or another release process can change custody quickly.
- The arrest may belong to another county. This matters near county lines and in communities that cross county boundaries.
- The person may have transferred to TDCJ. A sentenced offender who has entered Texas state correctional custody should be searched through TDCJ rather than repeatedly through the county jail.
- Federal custody may apply. A federal inmate belongs in the Bureau of Prisons or federal-custody search path, not a county-only roster.
For a current Henderson County custody question that cannot wait, call the jail at 903-677-6322.

Choose the Correct Record for What You Need
The inmate roster, bond record and criminal court case answer different questions. Using the right source first saves time.
| You need to know | Best starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Is the person currently connected to Henderson County jail custody? | Odyssey Jail Records + jail phone | Best local custody route |
| What bond information is listed? | Odyssey Jail Bond Records | Separates bond-related information from the broader court record |
| What criminal case was filed? | Odyssey Criminal Records / appropriate clerk | Court records track filed charges, hearings and case activity |

| Was a felony case filed? | Henderson County District Clerk | District-level felony records are handled through the district court system |
| Was the person transferred to Texas prison? | TDCJ Offender Search | County jail and state-prison custody are separate systems |

How to Check Charges, Bond and the Court Case
Start with the jail record, but do not stop there when your real question is about the criminal case.
- Locate the correct inmate or jail record and write down the full name plus any booking, SO or case number shown.
- Check the Jail Bond Records section in the same Henderson County Odyssey system when you need the currently published bond record.
- For the actual criminal case, use the portal’s criminal-record search and compare the defendant name and case number.
- For misdemeanor court records or copies, the Henderson County Clerk is located at 125 N. Prairieville St., Room 101, Athens, TX 75751 and lists 903-675-6140.
- For district-level records, including felony matters, use the Henderson County District Clerk, 100 E. Tyler St., Room 202, Athens, TX 75751, phone 903-675-6115.
County Jail, Texas State Prison or Federal Custody?
Searching the wrong custody system is a common reason families cannot find someone.
| Situation | Where to search |
|---|---|
| Recent arrest or Henderson County jail custody | Henderson County Odyssey Public Access |
| Sentenced and transferred into Texas state custody | Texas Department of Criminal Justice Offender Search |
| Federal prison custody | Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator |
| Criminal case still active after release | Henderson County court records rather than the current jail search |
The current TDCJ offender search accepts a name, SID number or TDCJ number. Use it after the person has entered state correctional custody; it is not a replacement for Henderson County’s jail search.
If the case is federal, see our Federal Jail Inmate Search guide for the difference between BOP custody and recently arrested federal defendants.
How to Send Mail to a Henderson County Inmate
Henderson County publishes a specific mail procedure for ordinary non-legal and non-medical inmate correspondence. The Sheriff’s current website still links this procedure.
Ordinary scanned inmate mailInmate Name
SO#
Henderson County Jail
PO Box 591
Longview, TX 75606
Important rules in the Sheriff’s published inmate-mail procedure include:
- The envelope and mail must include the inmate’s name, Sheriff’s Office/booking identifying number and a return address.
- Mail must fit within 8.5 × 11 inches.
- A mailing can contain no more than five pages.
- Pages are scanned on the front side only; writing on the back can cause the mail to be returned.
- The inmate may receive a maximum of one photo per mailing.
- Mail sent to the Longview processing address is scanned for electronic delivery and the physical material is then destroyed rather than returned.
- Legal and medical mail must not be sent to the Longview scanning address. Follow the jail’s facility instructions for those items.
- Books, magazines, newspapers and bulk mail are not accepted at the Longview personal-mail processing address.
The same Sheriff’s document also directs families to NCIC for electronic inmate messaging and lists rates of $0.25 per message and $0.35 per picture or document. Because vendor pricing can change, check the current amount before adding funds or sending a paid message.
Visitation, Commissary, Calls and Inmate Money
The Henderson County Sheriff’s main Texas page currently publishes an attorney visitation calendar and commissary office hours, but it does not clearly publish a complete family/friend visitation schedule or a confirmed public online deposit method on that page.
For that reason, the safest process is:
- Visitation: call 903-677-6322 before traveling and ask for the current family/friend visitation method, registration requirement and available times.
- Commissary: the Sheriff lists commissary hours as 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.; confirm how funds are currently accepted before sending money to any vendor.
- Messaging: the Sheriff’s inmate-mail procedure specifically identifies NCIC for electronic messages.
- Phone service: verify the current provider and rate with the jail before creating or funding an account.
Local Henderson County Search Tips
Henderson County’s seat is Athens, and the county includes communities such as Chandler, Gun Barrel City, Malakoff, Seven Points, Tool and Trinidad. The exact arresting city does not always tell you which database will eventually hold the person, so confirm the county and booking agency first.
This is especially important around Mabank, which Henderson County’s own visitor information notes is mostly in Kaufman County. If an arrest near Mabank does not appear in Henderson County records, check the actual arresting jurisdiction before assuming the person is missing from the system. Our Kaufman County Jail inmate search guide explains that county’s lookup process.
For other Texas custody systems, you can also use our Dallas County Jail inmate search guide and Bexar County Jail inmate search guide.
Before You Rely on a Jail Record
- Confirm the person’s identity using more than a name whenever possible.
- Recheck live custody before traveling to the jail.
- Confirm bond immediately before attempting payment.
- Use the court docket for filed charges, hearings and case outcomes.
- Check the current mail rule before sending documents or photographs.
- Do not use a public jail entry as proof that a person was convicted.
- Do not use jail information for employment, housing, credit, insurance or another regulated eligibility decision without following applicable law.
