Check the Dallas County Criminal Case

A jail record and a criminal court record answer different questions. The jail lookup helps you determine custody. Court records are more useful when you need filings, court dates or case status.

  1. Find the correct inmate in the Dallas County Jail Lookup.
  2. Write down the available case number and identifying information.
  3. Open the Dallas County Online Record Search.
  4. Select the appropriate criminal case resource.
  5. Compare the defendant information carefully before relying on the record.

Booking Photos and Older Jail Records

If a person is still in Dallas County custody, the Sheriff’s Office directs users to the Jail Lookup for available booking information.

If the person has already left Dallas County custody and you need a booking photo, the Sheriff’s Public Information Officer asks requesters to provide information such as the person’s name, date of birth and charges to help narrow the request.

See Dallas County booking-photo request guidance.

Why You May Not Find Someone in the Search

  • The person may still be going through booking or intake.
  • The name or identifying information may have been entered incorrectly.
  • The person may already have been released.
  • The inmate may have been transferred to another agency.
  • The person may be in state or federal custody instead.
  • The arrest may have occurred outside Dallas County.
  • An older arrest record may exist even though the person is no longer in jail.

For urgent confirmation, contact Dallas County Jail/Inmate Information at 214-761-9025.

Jail Booking Does Not Mean Conviction

A booking record shows that a person entered custody. It does not establish guilt. Charges may later be changed, dismissed or resolved by a court. If you need the outcome of a criminal case, verify it through the appropriate Dallas County court record rather than relying only on the jail listing.
