Find a Hays County Jail inmate and check current custody information
If you are trying to find someone arrested in San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, Wimberley, Dripping Springs or another part of Hays County, start with the county’s public jail-record system. It can help you identify a current or recent booking, check available bond information and move from the jail record to the related court case.

How to search the Hays County Jail roster
- Open the official public access portal. Use the Hays County/Tyler Public Access system rather than a commercial background-search site.
- Select Jail Records. The portal separates jail records from criminal cases, civil records and court calendars.
- Search the inmate’s legal name. Use the first and last name shown on identification when possible. If you know a booking number, use it to narrow the match.
- Keep the search broad at first. If no result appears, remove unnecessary middle-name or date filters and try alternate spellings.
- Open the matching booking. Compare identifying details instead of assuming that the first person with the same name is the correct inmate.
- Check Jail Bond Records when needed. Bond information may be handled separately from the basic jail-record search.
- For a live confirmation, call Jail Records. The Hays County Corrections Bureau lists 512-393-7832 for jail records.
What information can a Hays County inmate search provide?
The exact fields depend on the current public-access record, but a jail search is generally useful for confirming a person’s booking and custody status and locating the information needed for the next step.

No inmate found? Check these possibilities before giving up
The booking may still be processing
Hays County explains that intake can include a search, arrest-report processing, fingerprints, photographs and placement in a holding cell before magistration. Processing time depends on jail activity and the person’s condition and cooperation.
The person may already have been released
Hays County states that releases are processed 24 hours a day. The county specifically recommends checking the inmate search again; when the person no longer appears on the roster, that can indicate the release has been completed in the jail system.
The name may be entered differently
Try the full legal surname, a shorter first-name search or another spelling. Hyphenated surnames, suffixes and aliases can make a name-only search harder.
The person may have transferred to state custody
If the person has been sentenced or moved into Texas Department of Criminal Justice custody, use the official TDCJ Offender Search, which supports name, SID and TDCJ-number searches.
Bond and release information
Hays County uses cash, surety and personal-bond processes depending on the court order and circumstances. Before paying anything, verify the inmate, the current bond amount and the correct case.
| Bond type | Practical meaning |
|---|---|
| Cash bond | The required amount is posted directly under the court’s procedures. Hays County provides a card-payment route for qualifying cash bonds. |
| Surety bond | A licensed Hays County bail-bond company posts the bond under an agreement with the defendant. |
| Personal bond | The defendant may be released without posting the full dollar amount when authorized by the court. |
Hays County is a Bail Bond Board county. Only companies licensed to operate there may issue Hays County bail bonds. The county maintains an official list of authorized bail-bond companies.
Release timing: there is no reliable fixed number of minutes or hours after bond is posted. The jail says bonds are processed in the order received and several factors affect release timing. Release processing operates 24 hours a day.
How to find a court date or criminal case
The jail does not assign or track court dates. After identifying the inmate, return to the same Hays County public access system and use Criminal Case Records or Court Calendar.
