Find a Fresno County Inmate and Check Current Jail Status

If you are trying to find someone who was arrested in Fresno County, start with the Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office Incarcerated Person Locator. You can search by booking number or name and then check the person’s housing location, Booking Number, Jail Identification Number (JID/Person ID), charges, bail and projected release date when one is available.

Information reviewed: October 15, 2026. Fresno County uses the term “incarcerated person” on its current jail website, although many people still search for “inmate,” “jail roster” or “booking search.”

How to Search for a Fresno County Jail Inmate

  1. Open the official search. Go to the Fresno County Sheriff Inmate Info Center search form.
  2. Choose booking number or name. If you already know the Booking Number, use it. Otherwise enter the person’s last name; first name is optional.
  3. Try a partial spelling if needed. The Sheriff allows a partial last name followed by an asterisk. For example, smi* can return names beginning with “smi.”
  4. Open the correct matching record. Do not rely only on the name when several people have similar names.
  5. Copy the key identifiers. Save the Booking Number and JID/Person ID. You may need them for mail, money deposits, visitation or other jail services.
  6. Verify the current housing location. Check whether the person is assigned to the Main Jail, North Annex, West Annex or another location before driving to the jail.
Recently arrested? If the normal name search returns nothing, check the 72-hour booking list. A person may still be moving through arrest, intake, medical screening and booking.

What the Fresno County Inmate Record Can Tell You

Field What it means Why you may need it
Booking Number Identifier for the jail booking Searches, money deposits, mail and other jail transactions
JID / Person ID Fresno County Jail identification number Mail, voicemail and identity verification
Housing The person’s current jail housing assignment Determining facility and visitation schedule
Charges Charges associated with the current booking record Understanding why the person is being held; verify filed charges with the court
Bail Current bail information shown by the jail, when applicable Checking whether a charge is bailable and the amount currently listed
Projected release Expected release information when the Sheriff has a date available Planning, but it should not be treated as a guaranteed release time
Arresting agency Agency responsible for the arrest Useful when requesting an arrest or incident report later

A jail booking is a custody record, not proof that the person was convicted. Charges, bail, court orders and release status can change after booking.

Fresno County Jail Roster, Recent Bookings and Releases

Fresno County separates different kinds of jail information instead of putting everything into one roster.

Current custody

Use the inmate name search or A–Z custody list when your main question is, “Is this person in Fresno County Jail right now?”

Bookings in the last 72 hours

The booking blotter can show Booking Number, JID, arrest and booking dates, arresting agency, housing, arrest location, charges, whether bail is available and a listed bail amount.

Releases in the last 72 hours

The release roster includes recent release dates and release types such as bond, citation, time served, court-ordered release or other applicable dispositions.

If a person disappears from the current roster, check the release list before assuming the database is wrong.

If You Cannot Find the Person

Work through these checks in order:

  1. Retry the spelling. Search the legal last name and try the Sheriff’s wildcard format if you are unsure of the spelling.
  2. Check recent bookings. A very recent arrest may appear in the 72-hour blotter before you find it through your normal search routine.
  3. Check recent releases. The person may already have bonded out, received a citation, been released on another basis or otherwise left custody.
  4. Confirm the county. An arrest near Fresno does not automatically mean the person was booked into Fresno County Jail.
  5. Check for transfer to state custody. Someone transferred into the California state-prison system should be searched through the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation rather than the county-jail roster.
  6. Check federal custody when appropriate. Use the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator for a person in federal prison custody.
  7. For unresolved jail questions, call the Jail Information Office. The Sheriff’s published general inmate-information number is (559) 475-9491.

Fresno County Jail Facilities

Facility Address What to know
Main Jail 1225 M Street
Fresno, CA 93721
Confirm the housing assignment before going to the facility.
North Annex Jail 1265 M Street
Fresno, CA 93721
Uses a facility/housing-specific visiting schedule.
West Annex Jail 2208 Merced Street
Fresno, CA 93721
Replaced the former South Annex facility.
Do not go to the old South Annex based on an outdated directory. The Fresno County Sheriff states that the South Annex Jail permanently closed on December 14, 2024 and was replaced by the West Annex Jail at 2208 Merced Street.

The Sheriff’s administrative headquarters at 2200 Fresno Street is not the same address as the Main Jail, North Annex or West Annex.

How to Check Charges, Bail and the Court Case

The jail record and court record answer different questions. Use the jail search for current custody, housing and booking information. Use Fresno Superior Court for the criminal case itself.

  1. Find the person in the Sheriff inmate search.
  2. Write down the Booking Number, JID and charge information.
  3. Review the bail amount shown with the current booking, if one is listed.
  4. Open Fresno Superior Court Case Information.
  5. Search the public court system using the identifying information available to you. The court’s public portal may require account registration.
  6. Compare the court case with the jail booking rather than assuming that an arrest charge is the final filed charge.

Fresno Superior Court also publishes its 2026 Criminal Bail Schedules. A judge can change bail, and the amount shown in an inmate record is more useful for the person’s present custody situation than trying to calculate bail yourself from a schedule.

Release Notifications: Fresno County VINE

If you need to know when an incarcerated person is released or transferred, Fresno County participates in VINE — Victim Information and Notification Everyday.

The Sheriff’s instructions say users can register an email address and/or telephone number for notifications involving release, pending release for certain sentenced persons, or transfer to another county or state prison.

  1. Find the person in the Fresno County inmate locator.
  2. Open the person’s information page.
  3. Use the custody-status notification link in the record.
  4. Follow the VINE registration instructions and verify that your phone number or email is entered correctly.

Visiting a Fresno County Jail Inmate

First confirm the inmate’s current housing location. Fresno County visitation times vary by the Main Jail, North Annex and West Annex and by housing assignment.

The Sheriff’s visiting page currently states:

  • Visits are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • A visit is a 30-minute session.
  • Only two visitors are allowed at one time; one may be an eligible minor.
  • People in a quarantined housing unit are not eligible for normal visits until the unit is removed from quarantine.
  • An incarcerated person may refuse a visit.
  • Visiting hours depend on the facility and housing assignment.

The Sheriff’s current schedule page says its Main Jail, North Annex and West Annex schedules are effective January 27, 2026. Check the person’s housing first and then use the official visiting schedule for the final day and time.

Identification for adult visitors

Accepted identification includes a valid state driver’s license or state ID with photo, U.S. Armed Forces photo ID, passport, qualifying foreign consular photo ID, or qualifying U.S. Department of Justice/USCIS photo identification. The Sheriff says temporary licenses, foreign driver’s licenses and check-cashing cards are not accepted as visitor identification.

Sending Mail to a Fresno County Jail Inmate

This is an area where older jail directories can easily give you the wrong address. Fresno County changed its non-privileged personal-mail process on September 15, 2025.

Personal mail address
Incarcerated Person’s Name, Booking Number / JID
Fresno County Jail – 1900
PO Box 96777
Las Vegas, NV 89193

The front of the envelope must include the person’s Booking Number, JID/Person ID and facility code 1900. The name should match the incarcerated person’s jail record.

Current published limits include:

  • Return address required.
  • Envelope no larger than 4 × 9½ inches.
  • Letter paper no larger than 8½ × 11 inches.
  • Greeting cards no larger than 5 × 7 inches.
  • Postcards 5 × 7 inches.
  • Photographs 4 × 6 inches, with a limit of 10 photos per parcel.
  • Do not send cash, checks or money orders inside personal mail.

Non-privileged mail is processed and scanned before a printed copy is delivered to the jail. Legal correspondence and qualifying publisher-sent books use different instructions and the Fresno PO Box 872 address, so check the current Sheriff mail rules before mailing legal documents, books, magazines or newspapers.

How to Put Money on an Inmate Account

Fresno County Jail uses TouchPay for deposits to an incarcerated person’s account. The Sheriff currently lists these deposit methods:

  • TouchPay kiosks in jail lobbies.
  • Online through TouchPay.
  • Telephone deposits through TouchPay at 1-866-232-1899.
Information to have ready:
Fresno County Jail facility number: 293721
Incarcerated person’s Booking Number

TouchPay charges a convenience fee, which depends on the deposit amount and can change. Personal checks, cashier’s checks and money orders are not accepted for inmate-account deposits. Fresno County also allows approved commissary purchases and currently limits combined commissary/internet purchases to $175 per week.

Official money-account instructions

Phone Calls and Voicemail

Incarcerated persons cannot receive normal incoming phone calls. Fresno County’s current phone-services page identifies GTL/ViaPath as the jail telephone provider and directs account funding through ConnectNetwork.

  • Do not use three-way calling, call waiting or place a jail call on hold; the system may terminate the call.
  • Family and friends can add telephone funds through the provider’s system.
  • Fresno County also publishes an inmate voicemail line at (559) 400-7521.
  • For voicemail, the county says the PIN is the number 0 followed by the incarcerated person’s seven-digit JID.

Older Booking Records, Crime Reports and Mugshots

The live jail roster is primarily a custody tool. If you need an older record after someone no longer appears in the current system, identify exactly what record you need:

Record needed Where to start
Current jail custody Fresno County Sheriff inmate locator
Recent booking 72-hour booking blotter
Recent release 72-hour release roster
Criminal court case Fresno Superior Court
Older Sheriff’s record or crime report Fresno County Sheriff’s Records Unit / public-records process

The Sheriff’s Records Unit can be reached at (559) 600-8400. Fresno County also directs Sheriff’s public-record requests to its NextRequest system.

Do not assume every booking photo is available. The Sheriff states that it may release mugshots of suspects involved in its own investigations, but it does not release another law-enforcement agency’s arrestee mugshot without that agency’s consent.

Important Fresno County Jail Scam Warning

Do not send money to someone who calls claiming they can arrange an inmate’s release.

Fresno County Sheriff issued another warning in August 2026 about scammers using public jail information to contact relatives. The reported scammers demanded cryptocurrency, gift cards, Zelle, Cash App or similar payments and claimed the incarcerated person would be released with an ankle monitor or program.

The Sheriff’s Office says it does not call people to solicit money or demand payment of fines. If someone calls with this type of demand, do not provide personal or payment information.
