Find a Chatham County, Georgia Jail Inmate and Check Recent Bookings
If you are trying to find someone arrested in Savannah, Pooler, Garden City, Port Wentworth, Tybee Island or elsewhere in Chatham County, start with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office booking pages. The Sheriff publishes separate lists for people booked during the previous 24 and 72 hours.
Information reviewed October 18, 2026. Live custody, bond, visitation, vendor and mail-routing information can change, so use the linked Sheriff pages for the final transaction or trip.
How to Search the Chatham County Jail Booking Roster
The Chatham County Sheriff does not currently present the public booking information as a conventional all-inmates search box. Instead, the Sheriff publishes booking lists for the last 24 hours and 72 hours. This distinction matters because a person who entered the jail more than three days ago can still be in custody even though the booking no longer appears on those recent-booking pages.
Fastest search method
- Open the Sheriff’s 24-hour booking list if the arrest happened today or yesterday.
- If the person is not there, open the 72-hour booking list.
- On a desktop computer, press Ctrl + F on Windows or Command + F on Mac and enter the person’s last name. On a phone, use the browser’s Find in Page option.
- Compare the full name and birth date before assuming you found the right person.
- Copy the DIN, arrest number, arrest date, arresting agency, charges and displayed bond. These identifiers make later calls, deposits and mail much easier.
What the Chatham County Booking Record Shows
The official recent-booking pages currently publish enough detail to distinguish people with similar names and understand the basic custody event.
| Booking field | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| DIN | The detainee identification number used to identify the inmate. Keep this number for mail, deposits and jail inquiries. |
| Name and birth date | Use both to make sure you have the correct person, especially with common names. |
| Arrest date and arrest number | Identifies the specific arrest or booking event. |
| Agency | Shows the agency connected with the arrest or hold, such as Savannah Police, Chatham County agencies or another jurisdiction. |
| Bond | Shows the bond amount currently associated with the booking when one is displayed. Confirm eligibility before paying. |
| Charges | Lists the statutes and allegations associated with the booking. A charge is not proof of guilt. |
The Sheriff’s booking page also discusses Georgia restrictions affecting publication of booking photographs. A mugshot should therefore not be assumed to be available simply because a booking record is public.
If the Person Does Not Appear in the 24- or 72-Hour List
Do not stop after one failed search. The official public pages are recent-booking reports, not a complete historical list of everyone who may still be detained.
- Check the 72-hour page. A booking from two or three days ago may have dropped from the 24-hour list.
- Search only the surname. Hyphenated names, middle names and spelling differences can make a visual search harder.
- Allow for booking processing. A very recent arrest may not yet be fully reflected online.
- Call Jail Records at 912-652-7734 if the booking is older than 72 hours or you need to confirm current jail status.
- Call Receiving/Discharge at 912-651-3700 for a very recent booking or release question.
- Consider a transfer. If a sentenced person has moved into Georgia state custody, use the Georgia Department of Corrections Find an Offender service.

Bond and Release: Check Before You Pay
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office currently lists several ways to post an eligible bond. A displayed bond amount should be verified immediately before payment because another charge, court order, warrant or hold can affect release.
| Bond method | Current Sheriff instructions |
|---|---|
| Cash | Cash is accepted for eligible bonds and the bonding fee. Bring government-issued photo identification. |
| Credit / debit card | Visa and MasterCard are accepted. The card must be in the name of the person posting bond and photo ID is required. The Sheriff states that surcharges apply. |
| Money order / cashier’s check | Accepted under the Sheriff’s bonding procedures. Verify the exact amount and payee before obtaining the instrument. |
| Online bond | The Sheriff’s bonding page currently directs users to CashBondOnline.com. |
| Property bond | The property must be in Chatham County, free of liens and have sufficient value. The Sheriff requires an attorney title search and proof of paid property taxes. |
| Bonding company | The Sheriff maintains an approved local bonding-company list on its official bonding page. |
The Sheriff’s current instructions state that all bonds include a $20 non-refundable bonding fee. For card transactions, the posted instructions also describe additional processing charges. The detention center states that it does not accept bond payments by telephone.

Jail Booking Information vs. Chatham County Court Records
The jail booking page answers questions about an arrest and recent detention. It is not the complete criminal court file and does not tell you the final outcome of a case.
If you need indictments, later filings, court proceedings or case status, use the appropriate Chatham County court record system. The Clerk of Superior Court states that criminal record information can be viewed through Georgia’s re:Search system.
- First identify the correct jail booking and copy the person’s full name, arrest date and available identifiers.
- Open the Chatham County Superior Court Criminal Division.
- Follow the official re:Search GA option for criminal record information.
- Compare the party name and case information with the jail booking rather than relying on name alone.
- For a certified or complete record, follow the Clerk’s document-request instructions.
An arrest, jail booking or criminal charge does not establish that a person was convicted.
Chatham County Inmate Visitation
The clearest currently published option is remote video visitation through JailATM. The Sheriff lists the following schedule by housing unit:
| Housing unit | Video visitation days |
|---|---|
| Unit 1 | Monday and Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. |
| Units 2A, 2B and 2C | Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. |
| Unit 4 | Monday and Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. |
| Unit 5 | Wednesday and Friday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. |
| Unit 6 | Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. |
| Unit 7 | Monday and Wednesday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. |
| Unit 8 | Monday and Friday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. |
| Unit 9 | Monday and Wednesday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. |
| Medical | Tuesday and Friday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. |
The Sheriff’s remote-visitation page currently lists a visitor cost of 11 cents per minute, or $2.20 for a 20-minute visit. Pricing and available appointments can change.
How to set up a remote visit
- Confirm the inmate’s current custody and DIN first.
- Open the Sheriff’s Video Visitation from Home page.
- Follow the link to JailATM and create an account with your email address.
- Activate the account through the verification email.
- Locate the correct inmate and follow the available scheduling and payment prompts.
- Use a device with a camera and a stable internet connection.
Visitors should also review the current identification, clothing, conduct and prohibited-item rules. The Sheriff states that visits can be terminated for prohibited behavior and that ordinary video visits are monitored.
Sending Money and Using Commissary
Chatham County uses JailATM for inmate-account deposits. The Sheriff also provides deposit kiosks at jail locations.
| Method | What to know |
|---|---|
| Online | Use the JailATM link provided by the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s current page lists a $2.50 transaction fee. |
| Deposit kiosk | Kiosks are available at the jail. Cash and cards may be accepted depending on the kiosk. |
| Money order / certified check | Use the Sheriff’s financial-mail instructions and include the inmate’s full name and ID. |
The Sheriff’s Jail ATM information currently lists a $300 maximum daily deposit per visitor per inmate, with exceptions for certain documented payments such as bonds, fines, child support or work-release obligations. Mailed money orders are also generally limited to $300 unless qualifying documentation is included.
Money in the inmate account can be used for approved commissary purchases. The inmate handbook states that commissary orders are placed through jail kiosks and the cost is deducted from the inmate’s account.

Current Chatham County Inmate Mail Instructions
Mail deserves extra attention because the Sheriff’s Office has published a 2026 phased address change for several housing units. Older Sheriff pages and the inmate handbook still contain the former Atlanta processing address, so do not rely on an old bookmark or an address copied from a third-party directory.
Personal non-legal mail
The Sheriff’s current site says the newer mail address applies to Units 6 and 7 beginning June 15, 2026; Units 8 and 9 beginning June 22; Unit 1 beginning June 29; Unit 5 beginning July 6; and Unit 2 beginning July 13.

Because the notice identifies specific units, confirm the inmate’s housing unit or check the Sheriff’s current page before mailing if you are unsure which address applies. The Sheriff’s current notice also states that non-legal mail sent directly to the jail will be returned to the sender.

Inmate Phone Calls and Communication
The Chatham County inmate handbook states that detainees are enrolled in the inmate telephone system during intake and receive a PIN. Once assigned to housing, inmates can use the facility’s coinless telephone system.
The handbook states that ordinary calls are made collect unless the inmate has established a debit account and that inmate telephone calls may be recorded and reviewed. Attorney or other privileged communications can have separate procedures.
For an urgent family situation, do not assume jail staff can simply transfer an outside call directly to an inmate. Contact the jail at 912-652-7700 or the Shift Commander at 912-652-7710 and explain the situation.
Released, Transferred or Booked More Than 72 Hours Ago
A missing name on the recent-booking page does not prove that the person was never arrested. It may mean the booking is older than the public 72-hour window, the person was released, or custody moved elsewhere.
| Situation | Best next step |
|---|---|
| Arrest happened within the last few hours | Check the 24-hour page again after processing or call Receiving/Booking at 912-651-3700. |
| Booked more than 72 hours ago | Call Jail Records at 912-652-7734 for current jail information. |
| Person may have been released | Ask Receiving/Discharge or Jail Records to verify current status. |
| Person may have entered state prison | Use the Georgia Department of Corrections Find an Offender service. |
| You need the criminal case outcome | Use the appropriate Chatham County court record system rather than the jail booking list. |
