How to Search the Sac County Jail Roster
For a Sac jail inmate search, you do not need to pay a people-search website. Sac County links directly to VINE, and IowaVINE is a free custody information and notification service.
- Get the correct name. Use the person’s full legal first and last name. A date of birth or offender number can help distinguish people with similar names.
- Open the Sac County VINE page. This confirms that you are using the custody service linked by the county government.
- Select VINELink. Choose Iowa when the service asks for the state.
- Search the inmate. Enter the available identifying information and review possible matches.
- Confirm the custody information. Check that the record belongs to the correct person before relying on it.
- Call the jail when the result is unclear. Use 712-662-7127 when a person was recently arrested, cannot be found online or you need current confirmation.
IowaVINE can also be reached at 1-888-742-8463. The service can provide custody information and allow users to register for eligible custody-status notifications.

- Confirm that the person is currently held at Sac County Jail.
- Call 712-662-7127 and ask for the person’s current bond or release status.
- Ask which payment method is currently accepted for that specific case.
- Check Iowa Courts Online when you need the court case connected with the bond.
- Verify the amount again immediately before paying because court orders and custody status can change.
Sac County Jail Visitation
Regular visits are conducted in person and by appointment. Sac County instructs visitors to contact the jail between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and schedule at least 24 hours before the requested visit.
| Visiting days | Tuesday-Saturday |
|---|---|
| General visiting window | 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. |
| No regular visits during | 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. |
| Visit length | 10 minutes |
| Appointment | Call 712-662-7127 at least 24 hours in advance |
| Arrival | Arrive about 10 minutes early |
| Identification | U.S. government-issued photo ID showing date of birth |
| Visitors per session | Maximum of 2 |
| Under age 18 | County instructions require an accompanying adult; the inmate handbook specifies a legal guardian |
| Holidays | No regular visitation |
The county’s inmate handbook says visitor-list requests may take up to 3 working days to process. This means a first-time visitor should not assume that calling exactly 24 hours before a visit will always leave enough time.
The handbook also states that only one visitation session is allowed per inmate per day. Visits may be restricted or cancelled because of discipline, segregation or security needs.
The Sheriff’s public visitation page says a person who has been incarcerated in Sac County Jail during the previous 12 months will not be allowed to visit a current inmate.
Phone Calls and Inmate Texting
The county-posted inmate handbook says housing-unit phone calls, texting and video-device communications are monitored and recorded, except for legal calls.
- Phone cards are available for inmates.
- An outside person may purchase inmate phone cards through Reliance Telephone.
- Online phone-card information is delivered to jail staff for the inmate.
- Ordinary incoming calls to inmates are not accepted.
- Attorneys, bondsmen, probation officers and clergy may call the jail during normal business hours when appropriate.
- Eligible inmates in general population may receive access to a texting device under jail rules.
- The jail may restrict or terminate communication privileges when facility rules are violated.
Can You Email a Sac County Jail Inmate?
Yes. The current county-posted inmate handbook lists a limited email option, but it specifically warns that email delivery is not guaranteed.
| Jail email | jail@saccountyiowa.gov |
|---|---|
| Subject line | Include the inmate’s name |
| Message identification | Include the sender’s name and U.S. mailing address |
| Frequency | No more than one email per weekday in total from all senders |
| Length | Less than 15 lines |
| Pictures / attachments | Not accepted |
| Delivery guarantee | None; the jail recommends U.S. Mail when reliable delivery matters |
Mailing an Inmate
The inmate handbook allows correspondence but says mail is subject to jail security rules and inspection for contraband. The jail does not generally accept packages for inmates.
Before sending personal mail, call the jail to confirm the exact current inmate-name and addressing format. The facility’s published address is:
100 NW State St., Suite 7
Sac City, IA 50583-0037
Important mail rules in the county-posted handbook include:
- Incoming and outgoing correspondence may be inspected for contraband and security concerns.
- Mail connected with prohibited activity can be rejected or placed with the inmate’s stored property.
- Ordinary packages are generally not accepted.
- Legal correspondence receives different handling protections under jail procedures.
- Books or other approved legal or religious materials may require advance arrangements and direct shipment from a retailer.
Money and Commissary
The official inmate handbook says money held by an inmate at booking is placed in the inmate’s account and future deposits can be added. Commissary purchases are deducted from that account.
Available purchases may include toiletries, food items, stamped envelopes and inmate phone cards. Basic soap, shampoo, deodorant, a toothbrush and toothpaste are supplied at booking.
If the Inmate Was Transferred to Iowa State Custody
Sac County Jail is a county facility. A person who has moved into Iowa Department of Corrections custody should be searched through the state offender system instead of the county jail process.
The Iowa DOC search supports information such as the offender’s name, offender number, sex, location, offense and county of commitment. Iowa DOC notes that its public offender information is generally updated weekly, so a time-sensitive transfer should still be confirmed with the appropriate agency.
