Find a Tampa Jail Inmate and Check the Current Booking
If someone was arrested in Tampa, the main public jail lookup is the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Arrest Inquiry. The City of Tampa itself directs jail-inquiry users to HCSO, so you normally do not need to search for a separate Tampa Police jail roster.
The official system can help you confirm whether a person is currently in jail and review available booking information such as the booking number, charges, bond amount, booking photo, arrest information and detention facility.
Official jail and communication information checked October 27, 2026. Live custody, bond, housing and release information can change during the day.
How to Search the Tampa Jail Roster
HCSO calls its public jail database Arrest Inquiry. It covers Hillsborough County bookings, including arrests handled by agencies operating in and around Tampa. HCSO states that Orient Road Jail is the county’s primary receiving facility and processes people for more than 27 law-enforcement agencies.
- Open the official HCSO Arrest Inquiry. Use the government-operated search at webapps.hcso.tampa.fl.us.
- Start with the inmate’s first and last name. This is especially important for a very recent arrest because HCSO says newly arrested people may not appear in general listings during the first 24 hours but can still be found with a direct first-and-last-name search.
- Add identifying details only when necessary. The search supports booking number, booking date, release date, race, sex and date of birth.
- Select “Current Inmates Only” when your goal is simply to check whether the person remains in Hillsborough County jail custody.
- Select “Include Arrest Details” when you need the available arrest and charge information.
- Open the correct record and verify the person. Compare the name, age or date of birth, booking photo, arrest date and other identifying details instead of relying on a name match alone.
- Write down the booking number and facility. You may need them for money deposits, mail, communication services and jail questions.
What a Tampa Jail Booking Record Can Tell You
The HCSO search is designed for custody and arrest information. A matching record may contain several details that answer the most common questions without calling the jail.
| Record detail | What it helps you determine |
|---|---|
| Booking number | Identifies the specific jail booking and is useful for other inmate services. |
| Arrest and booking information | Helps confirm when the current custody event began. |
| Custody status | Indicates whether the person is still shown as being in jail. |
| Facility | May identify Orient Road Jail or Falkenburg Road Jail as the current location. |
| Charges | Shows allegations associated with the arrest or booking. |
| Bond information | Shows available bond amounts or related information for the booking. |
| Booking photo | Can provide another way to confirm the correct person. |
| Release information | May help determine whether the person has already left jail custody. |
If the Arrest Happened Today and No Result Appears
A missing result shortly after an arrest does not necessarily mean the person was released or never booked. Tampa and Hillsborough County arrests must go through intake, identification and jail processing before all information becomes available.
- Search the exact first and last name. HCSO says this can locate a new arrest even during the initial period when it is not yet shown in general listings.
- Allow for the 30-minute update cycle. The public system refreshes after data reaches the Jail Management System.
- Remove unnecessary filters. An incorrect birth date, race, sex or booking-date filter can hide the correct record.
- Check spelling and suffixes. Try the booked legal surname and remove middle names, Jr., Sr. or similar details if the search fails.
- Confirm the county. An arrest in Clearwater, St. Petersburg, New Port Richey or another nearby city may belong to a different county jail system.
- Call HCSO when timing is urgent. Jail general information is 813-247-8300.
Hillsborough County Jail Locations in Tampa
HCSO operates two main detention locations. You do not need to know the facility before starting the inmate search because the booking record can identify the current location.
| Facility | Address | Phone | Main role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orient Road Jail — Jail Division I | 1201 Orient Road Tampa, FL 33619 |
813-247-8300 | Primary receiving, booking, intake and processing facility for Hillsborough County. |
| Falkenburg Road Jail — Jail Divisions II & III | 520 N. Falkenburg Road Tampa, FL 33619 |
813-247-8300 | Large detention facility used for housing and jail programs. |
HCSO describes its Department of Detention Services as a county jail system responsible for the custody and care of people incarcerated in Hillsborough County. Orient Road Jail handles the primary receiving function, so a person arrested by Tampa Police or another participating local agency may first be processed there and later housed at Falkenburg Road Jail.
How to Check and Post Bond for a Tampa Jail Inmate
Start with the live inmate record because a person can have multiple charges, different bond amounts, a hold or another condition affecting release. A displayed dollar amount should not be treated as a guarantee that payment will result in immediate release.
HCSO cash bond and purge payment rules
HCSO currently states that cash bonds and purge payments must be made in the exact amount. Money orders are also accepted. Credit and debit cards are not accepted for these HCSO cash-bond transactions.
For payment, HCSO instructs the person posting bond to have:
- the inmate’s correctly spelled name;
- the inmate’s date of birth;
- a valid ID for the person making the payment; and
- the exact required bond or purge amount.

Tampa, FL 33619
Inmate Records: 813-247-8400
Surety bonds: HCSO accepts surety bonds from registered bail bond agents. Verify the inmate’s current booking and every listed charge before arranging payment with anyone.
Check the Criminal Case, Court Date and Final Disposition
The jail booking and the court case answer different questions. Use the HCSO search for present custody, booking information and listed bond. Use the Hillsborough County Clerk of Court and Comptroller when you need the actual criminal case, docket activity or final disposition.

Micro-step: go from the inmate record to the court case
- Find the inmate in HCSO Arrest Inquiry.
- Write down the exact booked name, booking number and any displayed case-related information.
- Open Hillsborough Online Viewing of Electronic Records (HOVER).
- Search by party name or a known case number. HOVER also offers other search options such as citation number and court/case filters.
- Compare the defendant information carefully before opening the case.
- Use the court docket or official court document—not the jail booking page—when you need the judicial outcome.
Tampa Jail Video Visitation and Phone Calls
HCSO’s family-and-friends visitation system is now remote. The agency states that its on-site social Visitation Center closed on October 28, 2025, and social video visitation is conducted remotely.
Remote video visitation
- Video Visitation Services are generally available after the inmate has been assigned to a housing area.
- HCSO lists typical video-visitation availability between 9:30 a.m. and 8:45 p.m.
- Each inmate is afforded two hours of prescheduled no-cost video visitation per week.
- Additional on-demand sessions may be initiated by the inmate for a fee.
- HCSO directs users to SmartInmate for the communication account and current service information.
- Smart Communications support listed by HCSO: 727-349-1561.
Inmate telephone calls
Routine calls are outgoing only. HCSO says people in Central Booking may make calls without charge for bail arrangements and communication with family or friends. In general-population housing, telephone services are typically available from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and inmates receive some no-cost telephone access each week.
How to Send Mail, Money and Commissary Funds
Personal inmate mail
Since October 28, 2025, HCSO requires ordinary personal inmate mail to be sent to a centralized processing address rather than directly to Orient Road or Falkenburg Road Jail.
c/o Mail Processing Center
PO Box 9115
Seminole, FL 33775-9115
HCSO states that ordinary personal mail sent directly to one of its jail facilities will be returned to the sender. Inmates are also not permitted to receive packages or periodicals such as magazines and newspapers through the ordinary personal-mail process.
Legal and privileged mail
Legal or privileged correspondence is handled differently and must be sent to the facility where the inmate is actually housed:
- Orient Road Jail: 1201 N. Orient Road, Tampa, FL 33619
- Falkenburg Road Jail: 520 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa, FL 33619
Put money on an inmate account
HCSO’s current Accounts and Canteen instructions direct friends and family to use TouchPay for inmate-account deposits.
Have these details ready before paying:
- Facility Locator Number: 233619
- Facility: Hillsborough County, Florida
- Inmate booking number entered without dashes when the system requests it
- Inmate name
| Deposit method | What to know |
|---|---|
| Jail lobby kiosk | Kiosks are located in the front lobbies of Orient Road Jail and Falkenburg Road Jail. |
| Online | Follow the current TouchPay instructions linked from HCSO and keep the confirmation number. |
| Phone | TouchPay: 1-866-232-1899. |
Inmate Accounting: 813-247-8290. HCSO lists regular Inmate Accounts hours as Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Approved care packages may also be available through the provider linked by HCSO. The agency says care packages are generally limited to one per week and remain subject to inmate restrictions.
Review current HCSO inmate account and canteen instructions.
If You Still Cannot Find the Inmate
Use this order before assuming that the person is not incarcerated:
| Possible reason | What to do next |
|---|---|
| Arrest is very recent | Search the exact first and last name and allow for the HCSO update cycle. |
| Name entered differently | Try the legal surname, remove extra filters and test alternate spelling. |
| Person was released | HCSO says public listings generally retain a person for 90 days after release; also check the court case. |
| Wrong county | Check Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando or the county where the arrest occurred. |
| Transferred to Florida state prison | Use the Florida Department of Corrections Offender Search. |
| Federal custody | Use the appropriate federal inmate or detainee locator rather than the Hillsborough County roster. |
| Record sealed or expunged | The arrest may no longer be publicly displayed. HCSO directs sealing and expungement questions to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. |
| Juvenile custody | Adult Arrest Inquiry is not the appropriate public source for confidential juvenile information. |
HCSO states that its online Arrest Inquiry relates to adult arrests for which it has an electronic record dating back to January 1, 1995. The public listing also states that individuals normally remain visible for 90 days after release. For older material or a record that no longer appears in the public search, use the appropriate HCSO records or Clerk process instead of relying on an unofficial people-search site.
Older Arrest Records, Incorrect Information and Final Dispositions
If information in an HCSO arrest record is factually wrong
HCSO provides an error-correction process for factual issues such as an incorrect arrest date or transposed numbers or characters. Its current instructions direct completed correction material to the Intake Operations Bureau at Orient Road Jail.
If the record belongs to you because of identity theft
HCSO instructs people who believe arrest information is appearing under their identity because of identity theft to contact its Identification Section. Identity verification may include fingerprinting.
If you need the final result of the criminal case
Do not use the arrest record as the final answer. HCSO expressly states that arrest data may not reflect the State Attorney’s charging decision or what ultimately happened in court. Use the Hillsborough County Clerk record for the final disposition.
See HCSO guidance for arrest-record corrections, identity theft and record removal.
Not a Hillsborough County Arrest? Check the Nearby County
Tampa Bay searches often fail because the arrest happened just outside Hillsborough County. Use the county that actually booked the person.
- St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo or Pinellas County: use our Pinellas County Jail Inmate Search.
- New Port Richey, Land O’ Lakes or Pasco County: see the Pasco County Jail Inmate Search.
- Brooksville, Spring Hill or Hernando County: use the Hernando County Jail Inmate Search.

Tampa Jail Inmate Search FAQs

HCSO says the Arrest Inquiry database is updated every 30 minutes. After a booking is entered into the Jail Management System, the public listing should generally reflect it within an update cycle.
4. Why is someone who was just arrested not showing up?

HCSO states that individuals generally remain in the public listings for 90 days after their release date. For older information, check the criminal court record or use the appropriate public-record process.

HCSO says cash bonds and purges require the exact amount, money orders can be accepted and credit or debit cards are not accepted for those transactions. Cash-bond payments are handled at Orient Road Jail. For current bond questions, call Inmate Records at 813-247-8400.
8. Can I visit a Tampa jail inmate in person?
Routine social visitation is remote. HCSO states that its onsite social Visitation Center closed on October 28, 2025. Remote video visits are handled through the jail’s communication system after the inmate is assigned to a housing area.
9. How do I send mail or money to a Hillsborough County inmate?
Ordinary personal mail goes to the HCSO Mail Processing Center in Seminole, Florida using the inmate’s name and booking number. For account deposits, HCSO currently directs users to TouchPay and lists facility locator number 233619. Verify the inmate and booking number before sending mail or money.
10. Where do I search after an inmate leaves the Tampa jail system?
If the person was released but still has a criminal case, use Hillsborough County Clerk HOVER. For an arrest outside Hillsborough County, search the jail system for the county that actually booked the person.
Best Way to Get a Reliable Tampa Jail Answer
Start with HCSO Arrest Inquiry, identify the correct person, save the booking number and check the current jail, charges and bond. Use HOVER only when you need the criminal court case, and use the relevant HCSO service page when you are ready to post bond, arrange a visit, send money or mail correspondence.
This sequence keeps most of the research in one place while reserving the official portal for the final live lookup or transaction. Because custody, bond and housing can change quickly, recheck the live record immediately before making a payment or relying on a release status.
