Find a Miami-Dade County Jail Inmate and Verify Current Custody

If you searched for a Dade County jail inmate search, the government system you need is operated by the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR). The county is officially Miami-Dade County, although many people still search using the older “Dade County” name.

The official inmate search is the fastest way to determine whether a person is currently in MDCR custody. A matching record can provide the inmate’s jail number, booking date and time, current location, charges, bond information, date of birth and other identifying information.

Information and official resources reviewed October 27, 2026. Custody, bond, housing and release information can change after a court hearing, transfer or jail processing.

What the Miami-Dade Inmate Search Can Show

The official county service states that inmate-search results can display the following information:

Record fieldHow it helps
NameConfirms the identity used in the custody system.
Date of birthHelps distinguish people with the same or similar name.
Race and sexAdditional identifying information shown by MDCR.
Current locationIdentifies the MDCR facility or custody status attached to the record.
ChargesShows allegations associated with the current custody record. A charge is not a conviction.
Bond amountShows available bond information associated with the inmate record.
Jail numberThe key MDCR identifier used for many inmate services.
Booking date and timeShows when the person was processed into custody.
Booking photographMay help confirm identity when displayed.

For court filings, hearings, plea information or the eventual outcome of a criminal case, continue to the Clerk of the Court rather than treating the jail booking as a final criminal record.

If You Cannot Find Someone Who Was Just Arrested

A zero-result search does not necessarily mean the person was not arrested. A new arrestee may still be in transportation, intake, medical screening, fingerprinting, charge processing or classification.

Retry the name

Start with the legal surname and use fewer search terms. Check spelling, hyphenated names and suffixes.

Confirm the county

An arrest elsewhere in South Florida may be handled by Broward, Monroe, Palm Beach or another jurisdiction instead of MDCR.

Check release

MDCR’s inmate-search FAQ states that its system also provides access to inmates released within the previous 72 hours.

Call inmate information

If timing matters and the online record is unclear, call MDCR at 786-263-7000.

Local MDCR note: Miami-Dade’s published inmate-search FAQ explains that an NDCCC location code can indicate a person is not physically inside a corrections facility but is being monitored on house arrest. The former North Dade Community Correctional Center itself is closed.

Miami-Dade Jail Facilities and Phone Numbers

MDCR’s current public contact information lists these primary detention facilities. Always use the location shown in the live inmate record because housing assignments can change.

Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK)7000 NW 41st Street, Miami, FL 33166786-263-5341

MDCR headquarters is at 3505 NW 107 Ave., Doral, FL 33178. The general inmate-information number is 786-263-7000.

Charges, Bond and Miami-Dade Criminal Court Records

Checking charges and bond

Start with the live inmate record because MDCR displays charges and available bond amounts. If the charges are bondable, Miami-Dade states that an inmate can bond out at any time. Before paying, verify every charge, because one case may have a bond while another charge, warrant, detainer or court order prevents release.

For current bond information, MDCR directs the public to inmate information at 786-263-7000. The department does not recommend a particular commercial bail bond company.

How to check the actual criminal court case

  1. Find the correct inmate and write down the full booked name, jail number and any available case information.
  2. Open the Miami-Dade Clerk Criminal Records page.
  3. Select the option to search criminal felony and misdemeanor cases.
  4. Search by the available case or defendant information.
  5. Match the defendant carefully before relying on a docket.
  6. Use the court docket for filings, hearing activity, judicial orders and case disposition.
Important distinction: a jail booking shows custody and allegations. It does not establish guilt. Charges can be amended, dismissed or resolved differently after booking.

The Clerk also provides certified criminal-history disposition letters. Its current instructions list certified copies at $7, with an additional $2 per year, per name search fee when the case number/year is unknown.

Miami-Dade Inmate Release and Property

An inmate can leave custody through several routes, including posting an eligible bond, qualifying for pretrial release or being released after court action.

Designated release location

Miami-Dade states that inmate releases are processed from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with releases occurring between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m..

Check current MDCR release information

Pretrial release

Miami-Dade’s Pretrial Services program provides qualifying defendants with a court-approved alternative to remaining in jail while a case is pending. Eligibility and conditions depend on the court and the defendant’s circumstances.

Property after release

Property collected during booking is generally handled through the TGK Property Room. MDCR currently states that property is normally available there for up to 30 days. While the inmate remains in custody, the inmate may authorize another person to collect property.

  • Property Room: Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center
  • Published hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
  • Offsite-property arrangements: 786-263-5355

Because property rules and release timing can change, call before traveling when the item is important or the release occurred several weeks earlier.

Video Visitation: Important October 2026 Change

Miami-Dade changed its remote visitation system in 2026. Effective October 1, 2026, Securus Video Connect became MDCR’s sole video-visitation platform. The prior ViaPath/GTL visitation account does not transfer, so family members, friends, attorneys and professional visitors need a Securus Video Connect account.

  1. Confirm the inmate is still in MDCR custody. Search the live roster and check the current location.
  2. Create a Securus Video Connect account. Start from Miami-Dade’s official Inmate Contact & Visitation page.
  3. Complete the required Securus setup. Follow the current account, identity and device instructions.
  4. Check the inmate’s available video options. Availability can depend on facility operations and inmate status.
  5. Follow all MDCR visitation rules. Video communications are subject to monitoring and facility restrictions except where legally privileged.

How to Send Money or Commissary Items

Deposit money into the inmate trust account

MDCR uses inmate trust accounts for expenses such as commissary purchases and, where applicable, self-bonding. Friends and family can make approved deposits through TouchPay.

Information you need before depositing:
  • Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation facility number: 233101
  • Inmate’s correct name
  • Inmate ID/jail number

Miami-Dade currently permits deposits through facility lobby kiosks, online through TouchPay and by telephone. Lobby kiosks can accept cash, credit cards and debit cards; online and telephone deposits use approved cards.

TouchPay phone: 1-866-232-1899. See the county’s official trust-account deposit instructions before sending funds.

Send an approved commissary package

Miami-Dade also permits pre-packaged commissary gifts through iCare.

  1. Open MDCR’s Inmate Commissary Items page.
  2. Follow the county link to iCare.
  3. Select Florida.
  4. Search by the inmate’s last name or inmate number.
  5. Choose eligible products.
  6. Review the inmate information carefully before checkout.
  7. Submit the order and keep the confirmation.

Inmate Mail, Phone Calls and Electronic Messages

Personal mail

Miami-Dade currently routes personal inmate correspondence through a digital mail center. Personal mail must be sent by the United States Postal Service; mail delivered by other couriers is not accepted.

Current personal-mail format

Inmate Full Name + Jail Number
Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department
PO BOX 20527
Tampa, FL 33622

Include your full return address on both the envelope and letter. MDCR currently permits incoming personal correspondence on plain white, originally lined paper and publishes restrictions on other materials.

Commonly prohibited items include greeting cards, postcards, colored paper or envelopes, newspaper/magazine clippings, stamps, extra envelopes, pens or pencils, padded/bubble mailers, glued items and other prohibited or non-paper material. Cash, money orders and checks should not be placed in ordinary inmate mail.

Before mailing something unusual or important, review the county’s current Unauthorized Mail rules.

Phone calls

Inmates cannot receive normal incoming personal calls. Friends and family can set up an approved prepaid calling account so the inmate can make outgoing calls.

Phone service helpNumber
Securus inmate-phone customer service1-800-844-6591
24/7 automated/customer support972-734-1111

Electronic messaging

MDCR also supports Securus eMessaging. Senders must create a Securus account, locate the incarcerated person and purchase the required electronic stamps. Messages, photos and VideoGrams are reviewed by the facility and can be rejected for policy violations.

Booking Records and Public Records Requests

The live roster is useful for current custody, but it is not a complete arrest report or historical corrections file. For additional MDCR records, Miami-Dade provides an online public-record request system.

If the Person Left Miami-Dade County Jail

If an inmate disappears from the county’s current-custody search, do not automatically assume the person is free. The inmate may have bonded out, been released by court order, entered monitored release, transferred to another county, moved into Florida state-prison custody, entered federal custody or been transferred to immigration detention.

The official lookup is the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Inmate Search at miamidade.gov. It is the best starting point for checking current MDCR custody.

3. How do I search for a Miami-Dade inmate by name?

Open the official MDCR search, enter at least three characters of the last name, add the first name when useful and compare the results using date of birth, booking details and jail number.

4. What information can the Miami-Dade jail roster show?

5. Why can I not find someone who was just arrested?

The person may still be going through intake and booking, the name may be entered differently, the arrest may have occurred in another county, or the person may already have been released. Retry the search and call 786-263-7000 when current custody needs to be confirmed.

6. Can I check recently released Miami-Dade inmates?

Miami-Dade’s published inmate-search FAQ states that the inmate-search feature also provides access to a listing of inmates released within the previous 72 hours.

10. Where should I search if the inmate was transferred from Miami-Dade?

Use the Florida Department of Corrections Offender Search for state-prison custody, the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator for federal incarceration, or the ICE Online Detainee Locator for immigration detention. Continue using the Miami-Dade Clerk for the local criminal court case.

Use the Live Government Record for the Final Step

For most searches, you can determine what system to use, what information to collect, which facility is involved and what steps come next from this guide. When you are ready to confirm a person’s current custody, bond, housing or release status, use the live MDCR record because those details can change at any time.

A booking or criminal charge is not proof of guilt. For the judicial outcome, use the Miami-Dade Clerk’s criminal case system.
