Find a Butler County Jail Inmate and Check the Latest Roster
If you are trying to find someone held in Butler County, Kansas, start with the Butler County Sheriff’s Office inmate roster. The county does not currently use a conventional name-search database for its jail roster. Instead, the Sheriff’s Office posts dated PDF population reports for the Butler County Adult Detention Facility in El Dorado.
How to Search the Butler County Jail Roster
- Open the official Butler County Sheriff’s Office Detention Division page.
- Scroll to the section labeled INMATE ROSTER.
- Select the most recent roster date. Do not bookmark an individual PDF because the Sheriff posts newer roster files regularly.
- When the PDF opens, use your browser’s Find command and search the inmate’s last name.
- Confirm the first name and sex so you do not confuse two people with similar names.
- Read every line associated with that person. An inmate can appear on more than one line when multiple charges or bond entries are listed.
- If you need current court status, release information or clarification about a bond, verify it separately before taking action.
What the Butler County Jail Roster Shows
The Sheriff’s current population report is organized by inmate and charge information. Depending on the record, you may see:
- First and last name
- Sex
- Whether the inmate is shown as housed
- Charge or statute description
- Listed bond amount when one is associated with the charge
The PDF should not be treated as a guaranteed source for mugshots, release dates, court outcomes or a complete case history. Those details may require the jail, court system or another official Kansas record source.

If the Person Is Not on the Roster
A failed search does not always mean the person was never arrested. Work through these checks before relying on a third-party inmate website:
- Make sure you are searching Butler County, Kansas. Search results commonly mix Butler County, Kansas with counties of the same name in Ohio, Pennsylvania and other states.
- Check the spelling of the person’s legal name and try only the surname.
- If the arrest was very recent, allow time for booking and the next roster update.
- Check the most recent prior roster if you believe the person was released shortly before the newest PDF was generated.
- Call jail reception at 316-322-4160 when current custody confirmation is important.
- Use Kansas VINE when you want county-jail custody status or release notifications.
- If the person has been transferred to Kansas state prison custody, use the Kansas Department of Corrections KASPER offender search instead of the county jail roster.
Track County Jail Custody With Kansas VINE
Kansas VINE is especially useful when you need to know about a later custody-status change instead of repeatedly checking a PDF roster. The Kansas Attorney General describes VINE as a free service for searching county-jail custody information and registering for custody notifications.
VINE covers participating Kansas county-jail offenders; it is separate from Kansas Department of Corrections state-prison records.
Kansas VINE also provides telephone access at 1-866-574-7463.
Charges, Bond and Court Case Information
The bond shown on a jail roster should be treated as the amount associated with that jail entry at the time the report was generated. Court orders can change, additional cases can exist, and a person may have more than one charge with separate bond entries.
For the criminal case itself, Butler County is part of Kansas’ 13th Judicial District. Public Butler County court files can be reviewed through the court system, and the Clerk of the District Court can assist when online information is incomplete.
| Butler County Court Clerk | 201 W. Pine, Suite 101, El Dorado, KS 67042 |
|---|---|
| Main clerk number | 316-322-4370 |
| Criminal division | 316-322-4375 or 316-322-4374 |
| Regular hours | Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-Noon and 1-5 p.m.; the office notes a Thursday staff closure from 1-1:45 p.m. |
Use the jail roster to answer the custody question first. Use the court record when you need filed charges, hearings, docket activity, disposition or certified case documents.
Phone Calls and Video Visitation
The Butler County Sheriff’s current detention page identifies NCIC Technologies as the provider for inmate phone and video-visitation services.
For a visit, use this order:
- Confirm the inmate is still housed at the Butler County Adult Detention Facility.
- Open the Sheriff’s Detention Division page.
- Use the NCIC Visitation Schedule link provided by the Sheriff.
- Create or sign in to your NCIC account when required.
- Select the Butler County facility and the correct inmate.
- Review the available visit type, schedule and current charges before confirming.
- Check the current identification and check-in requirements before traveling to the jail.
Because visitation slots, service fees and facility restrictions can change, the scheduling screen should be treated as the final source immediately before booking a visit.
Put Money on an Inmate Account
The Sheriff’s current detention information directs friends and family to JailATM for inmate deposits and commissary purchases. Deposits can also be made through the ATM in the detention-facility lobby during public hours. Deposit fees may apply.
At the time this guide was reviewed, the Sheriff’s current detention page listed a $96 commissary purchase limit per inmate per order period. It states that orders are processed on Monday and delivered Friday. Some older county pages still display an earlier limit and schedule, so use the current Sheriff detention page when the two sources disagree.
- Confirm the inmate’s exact jail name before sending money.
- Open JailATM from the Sheriff’s detention page.
- Create an account if you do not already have one.
- Select the Butler County facility and correct inmate.
- Enter the deposit or purchase amount.
- Review the service fee and inmate details before submitting payment.
Sending Mail to a Butler County Inmate
For ordinary inmate documents, photos and letters, the Sheriff’s current instructions list:
Inmate Name
Butler County Detention Facility
PO Box 591
Longview, TX 75606
The Sheriff’s current mail rules include these requirements:
- Include the inmate’s name and Sheriff’s Office booking number.
- Include a return address.
- Mail must fit within 8.5 × 11 inches.
- Maximum of five pages per mailing.
- Write only on the front of each page because the material is scanned front-side only.
- Maximum of one photograph per mailing.
- Do not send magazines, bulk mailings, newspapers or books to the processing address.
- Processed correspondence is scanned for electronic delivery and the physical material is destroyed rather than returned to the inmate.
The Sheriff also provides NCIC electronic messaging. At the time reviewed, the jail page listed messages at $0.25 and picture/document messages at $0.35 each. Check NCIC before sending because vendor fees can change.
Legal Mail Uses a Different Address
The Sheriff states that, effective June 18, 2026, legal mail must be sent directly to:
Butler County Detention Center
701 S. Stone Rd.
El Dorado, KS 67042
Do not use the regular Longview processing address for legal mail when the Sheriff’s current legal-mail instructions require direct delivery to the detention facility.
Jail Roster vs. Warrants
The inmate roster and warrant information answer different questions. The roster shows people listed in jail custody when the population report was generated. A warrant list concerns people who may be wanted but are not necessarily in custody.
The Butler County Sheriff specifically warns that its online warrant information should not be used as final confirmation that a warrant remains active. Active warrant status should be confirmed directly with the Sheriff’s Office, jail or Butler County Emergency Communications.
