Find a Bakersfield Inmate and Verify the Booking
If someone was arrested in Bakersfield and remains in county custody, start with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) Inmate Search. Bakersfield does not need a separate city jail roster for people who have been booked into the Kern County detention system. The Sheriff’s live search is the practical source for checking current custody, the booking number, jail location, charges, bail and available hearing information.
Information reviewed October 27, 2026. Jail location, bail, court dates, visitation and release status can change during the day, so recheck the live record before traveling or paying money.
How to Search for a Bakersfield Jail Inmate
The KCSO search accepts at least three characters and lists inmates by booking number, first name, middle name, last name and date of birth. Start with the legal name used during booking rather than a nickname.
- Open the official KCSO Inmate Search. Use the Sheriff’s page instead of starting with a paid people-search or mugshot site.
- Enter at least three characters. A surname is usually the best starting point. Add more of the name when the result list is large.
- Compare identifying information. Check the full name and date of birth before opening or relying on a record.
- Open the matching inmate record. Review the current jail location, booking number, bail and booking details.
- Write down the booking number. Kern County booking numbers are useful for mail, deposits, inmate services and identifying the correct record.
- Check the current housing location again before taking action. A person may be transferred from intake to another detention facility.
What the Kern County Booking Record Can Show
The Sheriff’s individual inmate pages contain considerably more than a simple name list. Depending on the booking, the public record can include:
| Record field | How it helps |
|---|---|
| Jail location | Shows the inmate’s current KCSO detention facility. |
| Booking number | Identifies the custody record and is useful for jail services. |
| Date of birth | Helps distinguish people with similar names. |
| Release date | May show release information when available. |
| Total bail / bail restriction | Shows currently entered bail information or a no-bail status. |
| Court case number | Helps connect the jail record to the Kern Superior Court case. |
| Crime case number | Identifies the related law-enforcement case when listed. |
| Arrest and booking date/time | Shows when the arrest and booking occurred. |
| Arrest location | May show where the arrest was recorded. |
| Charge details | Can list code section, description and offense type. |
| Hearing details | May list a hearing date, courthouse and department. |
One person can have multiple booking entries on the same inmate page. Read each booking separately rather than assuming every listed charge belongs to the same arrest event.
If the Bakersfield Inmate Search Shows No Result
A missing result does not automatically mean the person was never arrested. Work through these checks in order:
- Check the spelling. Try the legal surname, hyphenated form, suffix or another legitimate spelling.
- Allow time for a recent arrest. Transportation, fingerprinting, medical screening, identity checks and booking can delay a searchable record.
- Confirm the jurisdiction. Make sure the arrest actually occurred in Kern County.
- Consider a cite-and-release. Not every police contact results in continued jail custody.
- Check whether the person was released. Live custody status can change quickly after bail, court action or completion of processing.
- Check the court record. A case can remain searchable after the person leaves jail.
- Check another custody system. A sentenced person may have moved to California state prison, federal custody or another agency.
For a broader countywide explanation, see our Kern County Jail Inmate Search guide.
Bakersfield and Kern County Jail Locations
The location where someone was arrested is not necessarily the location where they will remain. KCSO’s Detentions Bureau operates several facilities, with the main intake operation at the Lerdo complex north of central Bakersfield.
| Facility | Address / status | Phone |
|---|---|---|
| Lerdo Justice Facility | 17801 Industrial Farm Road, Bakersfield, CA 93308. Houses newly arrested people and inmates pending court. | 661-391-3100 |
| Lerdo Justice Inmate Reception Center | 17801 Industrial Farm Road, Bakersfield, CA 93308. Main booking and release intake hub. | 661-391-3100 |
| Lerdo Pre-Trial Facility | 17695 Industrial Farm Road, Bakersfield, CA 93308. Larger-security housing facility for male and female inmates. | 661-391-7900 |
| Metro Court Holding | 1415 Truxtun Avenue area. KCSO currently lists it as court holding only and not a regular inmate-housing facility. | 661-868-6850 |
| Lerdo Maximum-Medium | KCSO currently lists the facility as not housing inmates and under construction. | 661-391-7865 |
| Lerdo Minimum Facility | KCSO currently lists the facility as not housing inmates and under construction. | 661-391-7967 |
| Mojave Jail | Receives Mojave-area arrests and may hold people pending release or transfer to Bakersfield. | 661-824-7141 |
| Ridgecrest Jail | KCSO currently lists it as not housing incarcerated persons and under construction. | 760-384-5919 |
Do not drive to 1415 Truxtun Avenue assuming it is the inmate’s jail. Metro Court Holding is currently used for court services rather than ordinary housing. Check the live inmate record first.
What Happens After an Arrest in Bakersfield?
KCSO identifies the Lerdo Justice Inmate Reception Center as its main hub for booking and releasing new arrests. The Sheriff’s Office says the reception operation processes roughly 30,000 new arrests per year.
After arrival, a person may go through identification, booking, medical screening, classification and housing assignment. That is why a very recent arrest may not immediately appear as a completed searchable record.
Release timing
KCSO’s current Lerdo information states that a release after bail can take up to eight hours. Time-served releases are generally processed between 8:00 a.m. and midnight, while people released at court are expected to be released before midnight on their scheduled release date.
How to Check Bail, Charges and the Court Case
The jail record and court record answer different questions. Use the KCSO record for current custody and booking details. Use Kern County Superior Court when you need the criminal case, court activity or disposition.
- Find the inmate in the KCSO search.
- Record the exact legal name and any displayed court case number.
- Check the bail field on the inmate record. A record may show a dollar amount or no-bail status.
- Open the Kern County Superior Court Case Information Search.
- Review the court’s disclaimer and enter the case-search system.
- Match the case carefully using the defendant’s name, case number and available dates.
Open Kern Court Case Search View Official Kern Bail Schedules
The Kern Superior Court publishes a 2026 Felony Bail Schedule. A schedule is not a promise that a particular inmate can be released for that amount; the inmate’s live record, court order, holds and case-specific conditions control.
Bakersfield Jail Visitation: Check the Facility First
Locate the inmate before scheduling a visit because visitation procedures differ between the Lerdo Justice and Pre-Trial facilities.
| Inmate last name | Lerdo Pre-Trial | Lerdo Justice |

Lerdo Pre-Trial appointment
KCSO currently directs visitors to call 661-391-7901. Appointment calls are answered and booked from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The inmate is generally allowed one 60-minute visit or two 30-minute visits per week.
Lerdo Justice appointment
Justice Facility public video visits are scheduled through the provider linked by KCSO. Current rules require scheduling at least 24 hours in advance and no more than one week ahead. KCSO states there is no fee for an on-site visit.
- Visitors age 16 and older need valid current photo identification.
- Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
- Minors require appropriate identification and proof of guardianship where required.
- Do not bring a purse, cell phone, camera, stroller or other prohibited property into the video-visitation room.
- Dress-code and security rules apply to both on-site and remote visits.
Check the current KCSO visitation schedule before leaving home.
How to Put Money on a Kern County Inmate Account
First confirm the inmate’s name and booking number. KCSO currently lists these deposit methods:
| Method | Current KCSO information |
|---|---|
| Facility kiosk | Kiosks are listed at Metro Court Holding, Max-Med and the Justice Facility. |
| Telephone | Call Access Corrections at 1-866-345-1884. |
| Online deposit | KCSO directs families to Access Corrections. |
| Care package | KCSO states families may order approved packages through Access SecurePak. |
Kern County also provides basic hygiene supplies at reception. Incarcerated people who meet the jail’s indigent-account criteria may receive designated basic commissary items under current KCSO procedures.
How to Send Mail or Contact an Inmate
Personal mail is now digital
Since June 1, 2025, Kern County no longer accepts ordinary physical personal mail directly at its detention facilities. Personal correspondence is sent to the Securus Digital Mail Center, scanned and delivered electronically on inmate kiosks or tablets.
C/O Securus Digital Mail Center
PO Box 25397
Tampa, FL 33622
Legal or otherwise privileged mail is handled differently. KCSO also prohibits various items in ordinary correspondence, including cash, checks, money orders, stamps, stickers, tape, blank paper and other restricted material. Approved books and periodicals may be sent only through authorized sources under KCSO rules; the Sheriff’s current guidance limits shipments to two soft-bound books.
Read current KCSO mail rules before sending anything.
Phone calls and messages
KCSO uses Securus Technologies for inmate telephone services. The listed Securus inmate-phone support number is 1-800-844-6591.
Jail staff do not accept ordinary personal messages for inmates. KCSO states that an emergency may be directed to the Facility Chaplain at 661-391-7881.
Inmate Property Release in Bakersfield
KCSO processes property releases at the Justice Facility:
17801 Industrial Farm Road
Bakersfield, CA 93308
Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- The inmate must authorize the release.
- The person collecting property needs valid state or federal government-issued photo identification.
- KCSO states inmate clothing is not released through this process.
- Processing may take approximately 30 minutes to 3 hours.
- Once the property-release process begins, the person collecting it must remain at the facility.
Need an Arrest Record or Bakersfield Police Report Instead?
Current jail custody, a police report and a criminal court case are three different records.
| You need | Best source |
|---|---|
| Current Bakersfield/Kern County jail custody | Kern County Sheriff’s Office inmate search |
| KCSO arrest record | KCSO Arrest Records Unit |
| Bakersfield Police-created report or City record | City of Bakersfield public-records process |
| Filed criminal case / disposition | Kern County Superior Court |
KCSO states that contemporaneous arrest information is public when the person is currently in custody or when the release date occurred within the previous 60 days. The Sheriff’s Arrest Records Unit is at 1350 Norris Road, Bakersfield, CA 93308, with public hours listed as Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays. The Sheriff’s contact directory lists 661-391-7624 for Arrest Records.
If Bakersfield Police created the record, use the City of Bakersfield public-records page. For custody itself, return to KCSO.
If the Person Is No Longer in Kern County Jail
Use the person’s current custody system rather than continuing to search the same county database.
| Situation | Where to search |
|---|---|
| Recently arrested or currently in Kern County custody | KCSO Inmate Search |
| Transferred to California state prison | California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR/CIRIS) |
| Federal prison custody | Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator |
| Need the criminal case rather than current housing | Kern County Superior Court |

Use the Live Record Before Your Next Step
For a Bakersfield jail inmate search, the most useful sequence is simple: locate the person through KCSO, verify the booking number and current facility, then use that information for court checks, visitation, deposits, mail or release planning. Recheck the record immediately before traveling because custody status and housing can change without notice.
