Find a Stanislaus County Jail Inmate and Check Current Custody

If you are trying to locate someone arrested in Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, Oakdale, Riverbank, Patterson or elsewhere in Stanislaus County, start with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Who’s in Jail system. The official search can be used with a name, date of birth or seven-digit booking number and can show the information most families need before taking another step.

Fastest route: Search the official jail database, open the correct booking, save the seven-digit booking number, confirm the current facility, then review the charges, bail, court date and release information shown for that booking.

A jail booking or listed charge is not proof of guilt or conviction. Custody, bail, housing and court information can change after booking.

What Information Can the Inmate Search Show?

The current Sheriff’s search is more useful than a simple name-only roster. Depending on the booking, the detail screen can display:

InformationHow it helps
Name and date of birthHelps confirm that you found the correct person.
Seven-digit booking numberThe key identifier used for several jail services.
Place of birthUseful for distinguishing people with similar names.
Booking date and arrest timeHelps identify the current arrest or custody event.
Arresting agencyShows which law-enforcement agency handled the arrest.
Current facilityImportant before visiting, calling or sending authorized items.
Release dateMay show release information when it is available.
ChargesLists the booking-related allegation or code information published by the Sheriff.
Case numberCan help connect the booking with the Superior Court case.
BailShows the amount published for a charge or booking when applicable.
Court dateProvides the next listed appearance when the jail record contains it.
Do not use the jail entry as the final court record. Arrest charges can be amended, dismissed or filed differently. Use the Stanislaus County Superior Court when you need the actual criminal case or later disposition.

Stanislaus County Adult Detention Facilities

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office operates multiple adult detention facilities around the Hackett Road detention campus in Modesto. Always use the facility shown on the live inmate record rather than assuming a person is housed at the booking location.

If You Cannot Find the Inmate

A blank result does not necessarily mean the person was never arrested. Work through these checks in order:

  • Very recent arrest: the person may still be with the arresting agency, in transport, undergoing medical screening or waiting for booking to finish.
  • Name mismatch: retry the legal spelling, middle name, suffix or date of birth.
  • Released already: a person may have posted bail, received a citation, been released by court order or otherwise left custody.
  • Transferred: current housing can change after intake.
  • California state prison: use CDCR’s California Incarcerated Records and Information Search rather than the county jail roster.
  • Federal custody: use the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator.
  • Immigration custody: use the ICE Online Detainee Locator when applicable.
  • You need the case, not custody: search the Stanislaus County Superior Court portal.

Charges, Bail and Court Dates

The Sheriff’s inmate detail can show the charge, case number, bail and a court date. For the criminal case itself, use the Superior Court of California, County of Stanislaus portal.

  1. Find the inmate in the Sheriff database and save the legal name, booking number and any listed case number.
  2. Open the Stanislaus Superior Court case-search portal.
  3. Search the available public case information and carefully match the defendant.
  4. Use the court record for filed proceedings, hearing information and later case activity.
  5. Recheck bail immediately before arranging payment because judicial orders, holds or additional cases can affect release.

The court publishes a 2026 Stanislaus County felony bail schedule, but a schedule amount is not automatically the amount required for a particular inmate. The actual booking and court orders control.

The Criminal Division is at 800 11th Street, Room 140, Modesto, CA 95354. The court lists (209) 530-3100, option 4 for Criminal. Clerk’s Office hours are generally Monday–Friday, 8:15 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; telephone hours are 8:15 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

How to Put Money on an Inmate Account

Stanislaus County uses TouchPay for incarcerated-person account deposits. Before paying, get the correct inmate name and booking number from the official inmate search.

TouchPay details to keep ready
  • Facility locator number: 295354
  • Jurisdiction: Stanislaus County, CA
  • Inmate’s booking number
  • Inmate’s name

The Sheriff’s published options include:

  • Online: TouchPay’s internet payment system.
  • Phone: 1-866-232-1899.
  • Lobby kiosk: cash can be used at qualifying TouchPay kiosks. The Sheriff lists kiosks at detention locations including the Hackett Road campus and REACT.

Online and telephone transactions can use qualifying card or checking-account payment methods. TouchPay charges a convenience fee, so review the amount before confirming.

The Sheriff’s commissary service allows incarcerated people to purchase approved hygiene items, food, recreational supplies and phone time. Current detention-support information states that incarcerated persons may purchase up to $75 in phone time and $75 in food/hygiene items once per week.

Open TouchPay.

Phone Calls and Electronic Messages

The Sheriff’s Office states that incarcerated persons generally have telephone access between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., although the exact access period and call length depend on the facility and housing assignment.

Stanislaus County uses ICSolutions for prepaid collect telephone accounts. Family or friends can create an account online or call 888-506-8407.

Electronic messaging is separate from telephone service. The Sheriff’s Office uses JailATM for electronic messages and photos. Content can be rejected when it violates jail rules, including prohibited sexual, drug-related, violent or otherwise inappropriate material.

How to Send Mail, Books and Legal Mail

Ordinary personal mail is no longer mailed directly to the inmate’s housing building. Stanislaus County routes personal postal mail through a central JailATM processing facility, where it is opened and scanned for digital delivery.

Personal postal mail
JailATM.com
Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Detention Center
IP Name and Booking #
P.O. Box 16120
Jonesboro, AR 72401

The booking number must be included. Do not send parcel packages to the central processing facility.

Books, legal mail, Medi-Cal and welfare cards
Sheriff’s Detention Center
200 E. Hackett Rd.
Modesto, CA 95358

These items should not be sent to the JailATM central mail-processing address. The Sheriff also states that magazines, periodicals and books must come directly from the publisher; third-party books and hardcover books are not allowed. An incarcerated person may have a total of five books in the cell under the current published policy.

Check the current Sheriff’s mail and book rules before sending anything.

Release Date, Custody Changes and VINE Notifications

If a release date is displayed in the inmate record, recheck the live booking before arranging transportation. A displayed date or anticipated release can change because of court orders, another case, a warrant, release processing or another legal hold.

Crime victims, qualifying family members and witnesses can also use VINE for custody notifications. The Stanislaus County District Attorney directs users to VINELink or 1-877-411-5588 for notifications that can include release from custody and certain other custody-status events.

The District Attorney specifically warns users not to rely solely on VINE for personal safety. If you have a safety concern, use an appropriate safety plan and contact law enforcement when necessary.

Need an Older Arrest, Jail or Incident Record?

A current inmate search is not the same as a complete arrest history. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Records Division publishes separate procedures for several records.

RecordCurrent published feeImportant requirement
Arrest Record Letter$25The subject of the record must appear in person with identification. It covers Stanislaus County arrests only.
Incarceration Letter$25Shows dates and times of incarceration in Stanislaus County jail facilities. In-person ID is required.
Records Clearance Letter$5Local name/date-of-birth check only; it is not a fingerprint-based statewide criminal-history check.
Crime / Incident Report$5 first four pages; $1 per additional pageRelease depends on the requester’s eligibility and the record. Valid identification is required.

Fees can change. The Sheriff’s Operations Center is at 250 E. Hackett Road, Modesto, CA 95358. For a statewide personal criminal-history record, follow California Department of Justice procedures rather than treating a county arrest letter as a statewide background check.

Check current Sheriff’s Records Division instructions.
