Find Someone in the Racine County Jail and Verify the Booking
If you are trying to find someone arrested in Racine, Mount Pleasant, Caledonia, Burlington, Sturtevant, Waterford or elsewhere in Racine County, start with the Racine County Sheriff’s Office inmate locator. It is the county’s searchable custody system and is more useful than relying on an unofficial jail roster.
717 Wisconsin Avenue
Racine, WI 53403
Jail phone: 262-636-3929
Fax: 262-636-3470
Maximum bed space: 876 detainees
The official locator can help you confirm the person, inmate number, current cell location, custody date, bail or fine amount and available court information. An arrest or booking does not by itself mean the person has been convicted of a crime.
How to Search the Racine County Jail Roster
- Open the official Racine County inmate locator using the button above.
- Enter the person’s last name. Add the first name to narrow the results.
- If necessary, use the available gender or year of birth field. The date-of-birth search uses the year format.
- Open the matching inmate record and compare the identifying information instead of relying only on a name match.
- Write down the inmate number/SPN, cell location, bail or fine amount, custody date and court information if you need them for mail, visitation or another jail service.
- If the locator provides a court-detail option, review the linked case information separately because jail custody and court-case status are not the same record.
Information shown in the official inmate locator
| Locator field | What it helps you verify |
|---|---|
| Inmate number | Identifies the jail record and helps distinguish people with similar names. |
| Date of birth | Helps confirm you selected the correct person. |
| Race / sex / age | Additional identity information shown by the county locator. |
| Height, weight, hair and eyes | Physical-description fields that can help resolve same-name matches. |
| Inmate cell location | Current housing information; this can also matter for visitation. |
| Bail / fine amount | Shows the amount currently posted in the jail record when applicable. |
| Custody date | Helps establish when the current custody period began. |
| Court date / branch | Provides available court information connected with the jail record. |
| Image | The locator may provide a “Click to View Image” option when an image is available. |
If the Inmate Does Not Appear
A failed Racine County Jail search does not always mean the person was never arrested. Use the record system that matches the person’s actual custody status.
| What you need | Correct place to check |
|---|---|
| Current Racine County Jail custody | Racine County Inmate Locator |
| Criminal case, charges or court date | Wisconsin Circuit Court Access (WCCA) |
| Wisconsin state prison custody | Wisconsin DOC Person in Our Care Search |
| Racine County warrant question | Racine County Sheriff’s warrant information |
Also consider whether the person has already posted bond, was released, was transferred to another jurisdiction, entered Wisconsin Department of Corrections custody, or is connected with a record that is not publicly displayed.
Racine County Jail is not Racine Correctional Institution
This is an important local distinction. Racine County Jail is the county jail at 717 Wisconsin Avenue in Racine. Racine Correctional Institution (RCI), at 2019 Wisconsin Street in Sturtevant, is operated by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. The Racine Youthful Offender Correctional Facility (RYOCF), at 1501 Albert Street in Racine, is also a Wisconsin DOC facility.
If the person has been sentenced or transferred into state custody, search the Wisconsin DOC locator instead of repeatedly searching the county jail roster.
Check Racine County Charges and Court Dates
The jail locator answers a custody question. Wisconsin Circuit Court Access, commonly called CCAP or WCCA, is the better source when you need public information about the criminal case itself.
- First find the correct person in the Racine County inmate locator and note any available court branch or case information.
- Open Wisconsin Circuit Court Access.
- Search by the person’s name or case number.
- Confirm that the case is filed in Racine County.
- Compare identifying information before relying on the record.
- Review available charges, hearings, court dates, filings and case status.
Felony Court: 262-636-3242
Misdemeanor & Traffic Court: 262-636-3148
Clerk of Circuit Court main line: 262-636-3333
Felony Court is located in the lower level of the Law Enforcement Center at 717 Wisconsin Avenue. Misdemeanor and Traffic Court are on the main level.
Bond, Court Processing and Release Timing
Racine County publishes several local details that are useful when the inmate locator has not yet changed after court.
- Cash bond: an amount is paid so the person can be released subject to the court’s conditions.
- Signature bond: the inmate signs the bond agreeing to return to court.
- Co-signature bond: the inmate and another named person sign the bond.
- Probation hold: there is no bond that can simply be paid to remove a Wisconsin DOC probation hold. The jail waits for DOC authorization to release the hold.
- Out-of-county hold or detainer: another jurisdiction may have a warrant or hold. Even when the local case is resolved, the person may not be released from custody.
For a person arrested on a new charge, the county says the initial court appearance is generally the next business day between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., excluding traffic matters. Warrant cases may take one to two business days. These are general published practices, not guaranteed hearing or release times.
When an inmate has completed a sentence, Racine County says releases commonly occur between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., although exceptions occur.
The county currently publishes a $30 booking fee for a person serving time at the jail and a $35 warrant processing fee when applicable. Fees and payment services can change, so check the Sheriff’s current bond information before making a payment.
Racine County Jail Visitation
Racine County offers non-contact visits and video visitation. Housing classification determines which option an inmate can use.
Sunday non-contact “face-to-face” visits
The county allows eligible minimum-classification inmates, including certain AODA, Huber, community-service and inmate-worker classifications, one non-contact visit per week. The visit is conducted behind glass using a telephone and is normally 20 minutes.
- Maximum of 4 visitors per inmate visit, regardless of age.
- Visitors must be at least 18 or accompanied by an adult.
- Visitors must be sober.
- Bring acceptable photo identification.
- Cell phones are not allowed in the Law Enforcement Center during visitation.
- Inmates on disciplinary status do not receive visits.
| Housing unit | Sunday registration time |
|---|---|
| 2EW – DR 3 & 4 | 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. |
| 2EE | 8:45 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. |
| 2C / 3C / 4C | 10:15 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. |
| 3EW – DR 3 & 4 | 11:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. |
| 3EE | 1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. |
| 3EW – DR 5 | 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. |
| 2B / 2EW – DR 5 DOC Rentals | 2:45 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. |
| 3A | 3:45 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. |
If the inmate is not on one of the listed floors and is not on disciplinary status, the county directs visitors to use video visitation instead.
Video visits
Inmates who are not in disciplinary segregation may use the jail’s video-visitation system. Sessions are scheduled for 20 minutes and can be ended by correctional staff when necessary for facility security.
On-site video visits can be conducted from the jail’s visitation room without an off-site connection fee. Remote visits are also available through the county’s approved system and may carry a fee.
The jail publishes lobby registration/scheduling access during these periods:
- 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
- 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Put Money on a Racine County Inmate Account
Money placed in an inmate trust account may be used for commissary purchases, medical fees, Huber fees and other authorized expenses.
The Sheriff’s Office provides deposit access at the 24-hour jail entrance off 8th Street. For cash deposited through the kiosk, the county currently publishes these transaction fees:
| Cash deposit | Published kiosk fee |
|---|---|
| $0.01 – $20.00 | $2.95 |
| $21.00 – $100.00 | $3.95 |
| $101.00 – $200.00 | $4.95 |
The kiosk limit is currently $200 per transaction. The county also provides an online deposit option through its approved account service. Because payment vendors and fees can change, start from the official Racine County inmate accounts page rather than searching for a payment company independently.
Care packages are handled separately. Racine County currently provides an approved iCare program for eligible personal-care items, snacks and other package options. Use the county’s commissary page to reach the current approved ordering system.

Picking Up an Inmate’s Property
An inmate can complete a property-release form for certain belongings. Racine County lists items such as keys, cell phones, jewelry and insurance cards as property that may be released when authorized.
The person collecting the property must bring valid photo identification. The county’s published property-pickup hours are 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. It is best to make sure the inmate has completed the required release form before traveling to the jail.
