Find a Gregg County Inmate and Verify Current Custody

If you are looking for someone arrested in Longview, Kilgore, Gladewater, White Oak or elsewhere in Gregg County, start with the county’s public jail-record system. Gregg County uses its Courts Records Inquiry portal for Jail Records and Jail Bond Records, while the Sheriff’s Office handles current custody and jail-service questions.

Fastest route: Open the official Gregg County records portal, choose Jail Records, locate the correct person, save the SO or booking information shown, and then use the facility, bond, visitation, phone, mail or commissary instructions below for your next step.

Jail questions: 903-236-1755   •   Sheriff’s Office: 903-236-8400   •   Outside Gregg County: 800-765-2189

Information and public resources reviewed October 27, 2026. Custody, housing, bond status, visitation availability and service-provider fees can change, so verify time-sensitive information before traveling, paying money or mailing anything.

Important: An arrest, jail booking or listed criminal charge does not establish guilt or a conviction. Jail records describe custody and booking activity. Use the related court record when you need the later case status or disposition.

Jail Records, Bond Records and Court Records Are Different

The Gregg County portal contains several search categories because each answers a different question. Choosing the correct one can save time.

You need to knowBest resourceWhat it is for
Is the person in Gregg County jail records?Jail RecordsCounty detention and booking information available through the jail-record system.
Is there a bond record?Jail Bond RecordsAvailable bond information associated with a local jail matter.
What is happening in the criminal case?Criminal Case RecordsCourt case activity, filed proceedings and available case information.

A jail record should not be treated as the final court result. Charges shown during booking can later be amended, dismissed, reduced or resolved differently.

If the Gregg County Inmate Search Shows No Result

A missing online result does not automatically mean the person was not arrested. Work through these possibilities before searching random people-finder sites:

  • Booking is still underway. A recent arrest may still be going through transport, intake, identification, medical screening or data entry.
  • The name is different in the record. Check legal spelling, hyphenated surnames, maiden names, suffixes and common alternate spellings.
  • The person has already been released. A current-custody search may no longer answer an older booking question.
  • The person was booked in another county. The arresting agency or city does not always tell you which detention system ultimately received the person.
  • The person was transferred. After sentencing or another custody change, the correct record may be with TDCJ or a federal agency rather than Gregg County.

For a time-sensitive answer, call 903-236-1755 and provide the person’s full legal name and any identifying or booking information you already have.

Gregg County Jail Facilities and Contact Information

The Gregg County Sheriff’s Office houses inmates at three facilities. Confirm the current housing location before traveling because an inmate’s facility assignment can change.

How to Check Bond, Release and the Criminal Case

Finding a bond amount and confirming an actual release are separate tasks. A person can have multiple charges, warrants, holds or court matters that affect release.

  1. Locate the correct inmate or booking through Jail Records.
  2. Return to the Gregg County Courts Records Inquiry landing page.
  3. Select Jail Bond Records when you need available bond information.
  4. Select Criminal Case Records when you need the related court case rather than the custody record.
  5. Before paying a bond or relying on a release estimate, confirm the current status with the jail at 903-236-1755.

Visitor-card rules

  • An inmate may request a visitation card and list up to five immediate family members.
  • The Sheriff’s published rules identify immediate family as a mother or father, brother or sister, child or legally married spouse.
  • A visitation card can take up to 10 days to be approved.
  • The inmate may request changes to the card once every 30 days.
  • Visitors age 17 or older generally must be listed on the approved visitor card unless an approved special-visit exception applies.
  • Only two children per adult may visit.
  • Standard visits are non-contact and are generally 20 minutes per group.

Identification and visit preparation

Visitors should bring an original or certified acceptable photo ID. Published examples include a valid state driver’s license, Texas DPS identification card, government passport, military identification or qualifying federal identification.

Phones, cameras, purses, packages, weapons and various other personal items are prohibited in the visitation area. The jail also enforces a dress code. Shorts and skirts must reach the knee, and transparent, strapless, backless, halter and similar restricted clothing can result in denied entry.

Former inmate rule: The Sheriff’s published visitation policy states that a person who has been in jail may not visit until six months have passed.

Special visits for long-distance visitors

A person who lives four or more hours from Longview may request a special visit. The visitor does not have to be on the inmate’s regular visitor card, but proof of residence is required and the visit must be preapproved by authorized jail leadership.

Remote video visits

Gregg County uses NCIC for remote video communication. The published jail information states that inmates can receive unlimited 20-minute video visits from their housing unit. Remote video visits are listed at $0.30 per minute.

Because vendor rates can change, check the amount shown by NCIC before completing a paid session.

Inmate Phone Calls, Messages and Photos

Gregg County uses NCIC Inmate Communications for inmate telephone service.

How to Send Mail to a Gregg County Inmate

Ordinary personal mail uses a centralized Longview processing address. The mail is scanned for electronic delivery to the inmate and then destroyed, so do not send an original item you need returned.

Regular personal mail

Inmate Name
SO#
Gregg County Jail
PO Box 591
Longview, TX 75606
  • Include the inmate’s name, Sheriff’s Office booking/SO number and your return address.
  • Mail must fit within 8.5 × 11 inches.
  • Personal mail is limited to no more than five pages.
  • Write on the front side only because the scanning process captures the front.
  • A maximum of one photo per mailing is permitted under the published rule.
  • Items sent to the scanning address are not returned after processing.
  • Do not send legal or medical mail to the PO Box 591 scanning address.
  • Books, newspapers, magazines and bulk mail should not be sent to the personal-mail scanning address.

Books and qualifying publications follow separate rules. The Sheriff’s visitation guidance states that books for an inmate must be sent directly from the publisher. Because housing can change between South Jail, North Jail and Marvin A. Smith, call 903-236-1755 before sending a publication or important legal/medical correspondence.

How to Add Money to a Gregg County Inmate Account

Every Gregg County inmate can maintain a trust-fund account. Cash in the inmate’s possession during booking is deposited into that account, and funds are accessed through the barcode associated with the inmate’s armband.

Online deposit

  1. Confirm the inmate is still in Gregg County custody.
  2. Obtain the inmate’s correct name and SO number.
  3. Open TigerDeposits.com.
  4. Follow the provider’s Gregg County inmate-account instructions.
  5. Review the inmate identity, fee and amount before submitting payment.

Money order

The published Gregg County procedure says to make the money order payable to INMATE TRUST FUND and include the inmate’s name and SO number.

If the Person Is No Longer in Gregg County Jail

Searching the wrong custody system is a common reason a person seems to disappear from a county jail search.

Texas state prison search

The TDCJ Offender Search supports searches by name, SID number or current TDCJ number. It also supports partial matches using an asterisk. Use this after a person has moved from county jail custody into the Texas prison system.

Federal inmate search

The Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator searches federal inmates from 1982 to the present by name or federal identification number. A person can leave Gregg County custody without immediately appearing in a federal prison locator if another agency is handling the transfer.

Need an Older Jail or Government Record?

If the live jail system no longer answers your question, Gregg County publishes an Open Records resource under its transparency section. Texas public-information rules allow access to many government records, although confidential or legally protected information may be withheld.

When requesting an older record, provide enough detail to identify it: full name, approximate arrest or booking date, responsible agency, booking/SO number when known and the specific document you want.

Other Texas Jail Search Guides

If the arrest happened outside Gregg County, use the county where the person was actually booked. These related guides explain other Texas county systems:

Before You Rely on a Gregg County Jail Record

Use the live Gregg County jail system for current custody, the court system for the criminal case, and TDCJ or BOP when custody has moved beyond the county. Verify the inmate’s identity before sending money, scheduling travel or mailing important documents, and recheck time-sensitive information immediately before acting.

A jail booking is not proof of guilt, and a public roster should not be treated as a complete criminal-history report or used as a substitute for legally compliant employment, housing, credit or other regulated screening.
