Searching for someone arrested today?
The normal name search is best when you already know who you are looking for. The separate Daily Incarcerations page is useful when you are checking recent jail admissions by county or institution.
Do not treat a daily admissions page as a permanent inmate roster. Bookings, releases and transfers can change after the list is generated.
What to Do if the Inmate Does Not Appear
| Situation | Best next step |
|---|---|
| Very recent arrest | Check Daily Incarcerations and try the name search again after booking has been processed. |
| Name may be misspelled | Search using fewer letters of the last name and check alternate spellings. |
| Arrest was in Berkeley, Jefferson or Morgan County | Check the statewide regional-jail search rather than assuming the person must appear on a county sheriff roster. |
| Person was sentenced or transferred | Use the separate WV DCR prison search because the person may no longer be in regional-jail custody. |
| Person may have been released | Check the latest state result and call ERJ if the exact release status matters. |
| You need the criminal case rather than custody status | Use the West Virginia Judiciary magistrate or circuit court record search. |
Eastern Regional Jail or Martinsburg Correctional Center?
This is an important local distinction. The current Eastern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility is at 94 Grapevine Road and has operated there since September 1999.
The nearby Martinsburg Correctional Center and Jail is a different facility at 38 Grapevine Road. The state’s facility information explains that the 38 Grapevine Road location originally opened as the Eastern Regional Jail in 1989 and is now used as a correctional intake and classification facility.
If a search result says Eastern Regional Jail, use the 94 Grapevine Road address unless the current WV DCR record tells you otherwise.
How to Check Charges, Bond and Court Dates
The jail roster answers the custody question. The court system is better for the legal case itself.
- Find the inmate through the WV regional-jail search.
- Write down the person’s full name and any case number shown in the custody information.
- Open the West Virginia Judiciary Court Record Access page.
- Choose the appropriate Magistrate Court or Circuit Court search.
- Search by the defendant’s name or case number.
- Compare the county, case number, charges, bond information and scheduled events before assuming that you found the correct case.
- For an immediate bond payment, hearing or release decision, confirm the information with the court clerk or jail first.
The free Magistrate Record Search accepts a first or last name or a case number and can return public case information. Court documents themselves may require contacting the clerk or using the court’s available document-access service.
Eastern Regional Jail Visitation
The facility’s published visitation instructions require visits to be scheduled in advance. Call (304) 267-0045 or (304) 267-0048 at least one day before the intended visit.
Scheduling calls: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
| Visiting day | Published 30-minute time slots |
|---|---|
| Tuesday | 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. |
| Thursday | 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. |
| Saturday | 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. |
The published rules state that visits are 30 minutes, an inmate is permitted one visit per week, and a visit is limited to either one adult and two children or two adults.
Identification accepted for a visit
- Driver’s license
- Non-driver identification card
- U.S. passport book or passport card
- U.S. military ID
A Social Security card, credit card, insurance card or self-created identification is not accepted as visitor ID. A birth certificate is accepted for a minor child only under the conditions in the facility’s visitation rules.
Visiting with children
Minor children must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or qualifying adult immediate-family member. When another adult immediate-family member brings the child, the facility’s document says a notarized Juvenile Visitation Form from the non-incarcerated parent or legal guardian is required.
What not to bring
The facility’s published rules prohibit weapons, tobacco products, cellphones, purses, food, drinks and other handheld or pocketed personal items in the visiting area. Dress rules also restrict revealing, see-through, excessively tight or baggy clothing, hooded items and open-toed footwear.
Read the official ERJ visitation instructions and Juvenile Visitation Form before traveling, especially if you are bringing a child.

Check WVDCR’s current calling and video-visit instructions before creating or funding an account.
Release and Custody Notifications
If you are a crime victim or otherwise qualify for victim notification, West Virginia DCR provides VINE custody-status notifications. The state lists 1-866-WV4-VINE for custody information and registration for automated phone notifications. Email notification can also be arranged through VINE.
View official West Virginia VINE information.
For ordinary family pickup planning, confirm a release directly with Eastern Regional Jail instead of relying on an old web result. Processing, court orders and other holds can change the actual release time.
